Seven Die in Chicago Hotel Fire at West Madison
Seven men perished when a blaze engulfed the upper two floors of the Hotel Center at 1426 West Madison, then spreading to nearby roofs. Three others, including a firefighter, were injured, thirty rescued as cause was traced to spontaneous combustion in a third floor room with paint and oil. Bandit Dies Cheating Chair in Columbus
Carl Boettcher, 24, of Cleveland, died after an electric chair execution attempt failed.
