Cincinnati April 1 AP Municipal Judge Otis R Hess ruled the Ohio liquor control act unconstitutional and in violation of the federal alcohol administration act. He argued the Ohio constitution forbids such legislation and questioned state monopoly power over liquor sales and private competition.
Two Logan youths were arrested in the robbery of Dave Milne's Smoke House last Wednesday night with over $200 taken. Delbert Freeman and Reed Salsberry pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering, bound over to the grand jury on $800 bonds each. Freeman had been questioned since Monday. Salsberry was arrested last night. Entrance was via a small rear window.

Vera Stretz testified she did not intend to kill her lover Dr. Fritz Gebhardt and had bought cartridges in 1931. A ballistics expert hired by the state said the cartridges were manufactured October 5 1933, challenging her account as the trial nears a verdict.
R P Crawford editor of the Shreve news said his last issue was the largest in the paper s 69 year history not the last as reported. Two thousand two hundred fifty eight page copies of the weekly issue were distributed. The six column hand set paper normally has four pages and the AP transmission changed largest to last.
State Welfare Director Margaret Allman announced a plan to reduce the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' home payroll at Sandusky by $1,000 monthly. Perry L. Null, suspended as commandant for 30 days without pay, and his wife, the former matron, vacated their quarters amid the move.

Soviet dispatches from Moscow report a 24 hour plus battle in eastern borders where Mongolian forces repelled Manchoukuoan and allied Japanese troops. Reinforcements including field guns tanks and planes were cited by eastern border reports. Officials warned of rising risk of a Russo Japanese conflict pending fuller details.
Former Illinois Governor Frank O. Lowden was tentatively chosen to be the keynote speaker at the Republican national convention in Cleveland. GOP leaders agree on the choice but have not yet secured Lowden's consent. he spoke at last year's grass roots conference and is expected to accept.
