Lights Gather For Reunion
The Light descendants held their annual family reunion at Llano City Park and Community Center from September 4 to 5, drawing about 140 relatives and friends. They traced the family history from Virginia in the 1600s to Gonzales County Texas with seven children, noting Vadh D and Sarah Eliza Light moved to Llano County in 1877. Otis Light and Ruby Wooten are still living. A barbeque lunch and 42 games marked the weekend.

Field Day Plans At Knox City Plant Materials Center
Plans are complete for a field day at the Soil Conservation Service plant materials center near Knox City on Thursday September 23. Guided tours run 8 30 a m to about 3 p m with access via Highway 6 and FM 1292. Knox City offers a 3 200 foot all weather runway and transport from the airport will be provided by the chamber of commerce. Participants from Texas and Oklahoma will see trials of grasses for range and pasture including Se tion 75 kleingrass El Reno Uvalde Vaughn sidecats grama King Ranch bluestem green sprangletop and Grenville switchgrass. Wildlife friendly forbs legumes and woody plants are being evaluated for deer turkey quail dove and songbirds. Seed or rootstock are collected for field trials before potential release by soil and water conservation districts. Cooperation comes from ARS Texas A&M Texas Tech Prairie View A&M Abilene Christian U.S. Air Force Corps of Engineers Parks and Wildlife and local districts.

SAR Plans Hill Country Chapter Meeting in Kerrville
Hill Country Chapter Sons of the American Revolution will meet September 27 at noon at Trails Inn Kerrville with speaker Howard L. Jones registrar. He will discuss proving Revolutionary ancestor participation and suggest sources for verification. Open to male Hill Country residents who are SAR members or qualify. Congress Aug 27 1962 proposed the 24th Amendment banning poll taxes in federal elections.
