County Fair Opens Next Week With Races and Liberty Loan Drive
The county fair runs Tuesday through Friday with horse races and a large Thursday program. Liberty Loan boosters will urge attendees to contribute to the fund for world freedom. A community sing directed by Prof Hi J Taylor is also planned as an attraction.

Aeroplanes Attract Town Then Fly On To York
Three large aeroplanes passed over town shortly before five on Wednesday afternoon. They had recently appeared at the Reading fair coming from Hazelhurst Field Mineola Long Island and were en route to York. Also reported are local fishing and crop happenings including a 18 inch salmon claimed by the pastor Rev W K Fleck and a dispute over its true length. Residents aided Wayne Young of Owl Hill who has typhoid fever by helping store his 4 acre tobacco crop.

Deaths of Mrs. Barbara Grayhill and George Fritz in Lititz area
Mrs Barbara Grayhill widow of Jacob Grayhill died at her daughter’s home in Penryn Penn township on Monday at 9 30 PM. She was 79 years 8 months and 9 days, born in Penn township, a Church of the Brethren member, with one brother in Ohio surviving. Funeral services were held at Graybill s meeting house with Rev L B Longenecker, Rev Charles Cassel and Rev Nathan Fahnestock officiating. George Fritz died at the Christian Sanitarium in Philadelphia on Wednesday September 18 at age 92 years 2 months 11 days. He was well known in Lititz, having lived here about six years.

Local Soldier Boy Helman Dies in France in World War I
Hiram G Helman, son of Mr and Mrs Herman B Helman, of Fast Main Street, was killed in action in France last month while serving with the American Expeditionary Forces. A letter from his commander at EH company 108th engineers expressed deep sympathy and pride in his sacrifice. The family, who learned the news Tuesday, received no official government confirmation yet, and the father had felt a premonition of his son's death for a month. The community extends its heartfelt condolences to the Helman family.

Night prowlers threaten Five Points store owner
Walter Smith of Teaman & Leed's Five Points branch reports repeated intrusion attempts on his store and home. Last Friday at 10 30 p.m. thieves tried the back door. they returned and were scared off. Saturday morning about 2 00 a.m. a man prowled the premises. Smith summoned neighbor Milton Bender and the would be thieves departed. Smith has since bought a revolver and ammo, warning intruders will be taking a desperate chance.

Ideal Chocolate to Ship 60000 Bars Overseas for Red Cross

War Relic Exhibit From Europe to Be Shown in Lititz
