Wheat allotment plan urged as 1934 crop cut eyed
Secretary Wallace announced a 150 percent reduction in 1934 wheat acreage for farmers to qualify for federal cash under the domestic allotment plan. The scheme would pay 28 cents per bushel on 4 percent of the crop, while growers cut plantings by 15 percent, with payments potentially totaling around 3420 million dollars if all sign contracts and provide farm maps and threshing and elevator certifications.
