Annville Murder Case Ties Two Shoeworkers in Bank Holdup
Nelson Mearig, a shoe cutter at Kreider factory in Annville, worked in the same room with Philip A. Hartman, who figured in the Abbotstown state bank holdup and the shooting of a state policeman. Hartman surrendered at Reading police station after reading of the manhunt, claiming no close ties to Mearig. Hartman, about 24, quiet in disposition, confessed after third degree pressure.

George Daebler Seen in Reading Amid Disappearance
George Daebler, once a Lititz resident who vanished from Lancaster weeks ago amid fears of foul play by his wife, was spotted on a Reading street this week by William Fichthorn. Daebler said he was headed for California and did not discuss his vanishing.

H. B. Buch Is 89 Today Still Sings and Whistles While He Works
Henry B. Buch is 89 and still active in his former wagon making shop. He upholsters and stripes chairs and paints cars, enjoying good health and life. Apprenticed at sixteen to learn coach making, he did every part of wagon work and still values work as his lifeblood. He recalls singing schools, stays steady, never used tobacco, and believes longevity comes from avoiding excess with a life of friendship and work. His family includes a long-lived mother, an aunt, a sister and two brothers in nearby towns.

Fair Autumn Days Present Month Of Perfect Weather
The period has featured cloudless skies and seasonable temperatures with no rain since October 9. Since Sunday the weather turned colder yet remains pleasant for outdoor activity. Leaves are colorful and many deem nature at its grandest. Gardeners prepare winter crops, celery banks, cabbages removed, weeds burned, grapes late but now ripening.
Sturgis Couple Marks 55 Years of Marriage
Mr and Mrs Edwin Sturgis celebrate their fifty fifth wedding anniversary in Lititz with a quiet observance. He born 1842 in Lititz, served in the Union Army and worked as a carpenter and pretzel baker. She born 1850 in Lexington, daughter of Joseph and Anna Kissinger, Moravian church member. They married October 21 1869 and had five children, all married. Attendants include William Mathers and Mrs Jacob Stark. They previously hosted 300 guests at their wedding and shared a wine and pound cake toast.

Big Catch Draws Attention at Local River
Local fisherman N D Sturgis and his son Frank Sturgis from Philadelphia landed 45 salmon over four days last week. The biggest fish weighed six pounds and another four pounds. Dr D A Long and Chester Leicey each caught four salmon on Saturday. Ephraim Herr took two salmon on one line, both sizable. Cyrus Zartman brought two nice salmon, three and a half pounds and three pounds. Lewis Haines and Tom Goodhart fished a week, netting 4 salmon, 5 bass, 42 eels, and 131 catfish.

Man Helps After . Auto Crash Near Sandersburg
Richard Graybill of Lititz a Sanitary Milk driver aided an injured woman after a car overturned on trolley tracks near Sandersburg. He lifted the car to free her, placed her on his truck, and summoned Lancaster General Hospital ambulance. The driver of the other vehicle fled after striking the stretcher.
