John Myers, who escaped from a firehouse cell in March after a disorderly conduct arrest, was tracked to the stone quarry east of town and captured by Officers Singley and Kreider. He is jailed in Lancaster awaiting a hearing before Squire C. N. Der. Myers had prior jail terms and had recently broken jail by prying bars with a meat chopper lever. He came to this area from Mannheim.

Fat steers brought a new top price of 14.65 per hundredweight at the Union Stock Yards Lancaster. Seized by Jr Sensenig, the 72 Clereford yearlings were fattened on his Lititz area farm after being bought from a Texas dealer in late October last year. Average weight rose from 317 to 977 pounds between purchase and sale.
