Auto Crash Injures Woman in Cart on Lititz Pike

A Sunday carriage ride ended when an auto struck from the rear near Rheems, throwing the party into a three foot embankment. Mrs Buffenmeyer suffered a torn ligament and cannot walk. Mrs Lenhart broke a hand. Mr Musser offered his car, but the party rode home with the others. Dr Evans attended. no one is seriously hurt. The incident sparked questions about fault and visibility on a newly-piked road.

Thieves Linked to Hosiery Mill and Shirt Factory Theft

Lancaster police claim to have captured suspects in a Monday morning break in at the Lititz Hosiery Mill and Tauber Ryttenberg shirt factory. John Erisman alias Slip was arrested at Reading, with Harry Duncan James Carr and Louis Yanko taken in Lancaster fittings. Authorities recovered 250 dozen stockings and a number of shirts, and linked a female accomplice with prior police history.

Deaths of Mrs. Matilda Bear and Jacob Fasnacht

Mrs. Matilda Bear wife of Michael Bear of Lititz died after a summer illness at 6 p.m. aged 60 years and 9 months she left nine children surviving and funeral rites were held at her home with interment at Machpelah. Jacob Fasnacht of Schoeneck West Cocalico township died after a prolonged illness at age 68. He had been a brickmaker and served as township supervisor and tax collector. Funeral services were held with burial at Mellinger’s Meeting-house.

Death of Mrs Nellie Shirk Akron Resident

Mrs Nellie Shirk an aged Akron resident died at her home on Thursday September 28 aged seventy nine Her maiden name was Wolf and she had two husbands both deceased Surviving children include Samuel Mohler Mrs John Bollinger Mrs James Krick Mrs Josiah Reazer Mrs Wayne Kulp Mrs Henry Mohn Adam Mohler Jacob Mohler and Phares Mohler Two brothers Samuel and Elias Wolf Funeral services were held Monday at Mohlers Meeting house with interment in the same place She was a member of the German Baptist Church.

Death of East Petersburg’s Henry B. Martzall at home

Henry B. Martzall, one of East Petersburg’s oldest residents, died at his home Monday afternoon from the effects of a stroke. The report notes the details continue on page five.

Banquet for Moravian Men's Missionary Society

Seventy five members and friends attended a banquet in Linden Hall gymnasium hosted by the Moravian church Men's Missionary Society of Lititz. Rev E S Hagen presided as toastmaster with historians and local leaders sharing remarks. An archives opening prior to the meal showcased Counts and items from Lititz history including a 1754 portrait and 1764 instruments.

Roy Hassler Wins Free Moravian College Scholarship

Lititz native Roy Hassler son of Schuyler C Hassler receives a four year free college course at Moravian College Bethlehem after James M Beck former US assistant district attorney and Standard Oil attorney arranged funding. Hassler graduated with honors and plays violin in the high school orchestra. Thomas Steffy won a concrete paving contract from Bareville end to end totaling about 46 000 feet over two miles and will begin next week.

Lititz Historian Honored by Moravian Society Meeting

The Moravian Historical Society held its annual meeting at Whitefield House Nazareth with a noonday vesper and a traditional repast of apple butter dried beef bread cheese sugar cake and coffee. Abram R Beck of Lititz was elected a vice president. The notice ends with an advertisement for Fisher's Store offering cheap shoes hats and caps.
