Thanksgiving week brings pie at Kissel Hill Inn and birthday gifts for Mrs. Mumma. Births, illnesses, farm losses, animal sales, and a large philanthropic obituary for Israel B. Shreiner are reported along with town events and a district church service.
Miss Leah Bingeman aged 77 died at the home of Isaac Zerbe in Reamstown after a stroke the day before. She lived with Mrs. Catherine Harley in Ephrata and belonged to the Church of the Brethren. Survived by five brothers Paul Kissel Hill John Green Iowa George Quinter Kan Adam Cerro Gordo Ill William West. Funeral from Mr Zerbe’s home Tuesday with services at Mohler’s meeting house at 10 o’clock.
Mrs. Alice May Kulp died at her home near Manheim on Monday in her thirty first year from a complication of diseases after a brief illness. Survived by husband Christian Kulp two young children her parents and two sisters Mrs Cornelius Kreider and Viola Weaver. Funeral held at home with burial in Manheim Cemetery. Seventeen Ladies Sewing Society members gathered at Dietrich Rupps to sew for the family and share refreshments. Mr and Mrs William A Smith hosted a dinner on South Broad Street for relatives in honor of Mrs Smith and Mr Diehm's birthdays.
A dawn fire destroyed three frame stables on Juniper alley opposite the primary school, injuring neither the school nor firefighters. Owners include Dr C E Lane and Clayton Stedman. losses exceed $2000 with horses, wagons, and gear consumed. Firefighters battled heat and weak water pressure as embers sparked nearby buildings.
Forty nine Odd Fellows from Lititz and twenty seven degree staff conferred the first degree in Lancaster with the Past Grands Association in attendance. The ceremony, held in the F O E hall, featured praise for the staff and a luncheon in the Eagles room. Real estate agents Hershey and Gibbes sold two Warwick properties to Haydn K Carper and Daniel B Eberly for totals of 1850 and 1000 respectively.
On Saturday between midnight and 1 am a person attempted to gain entry to Ezra Lutz home by removing a screen from a porch window. A daughter heard the disturbance and alarmed others, causing the intruder to flee. Also, Jones Bucher, near Lexington, sustained injuries in a Rome area road accident on Sunday evening when his buggy upset after striking a stump. he suffered a dislocated foot and bruises.
Strictly Personal Tens recounts a busy fall weekend with Alvin Mumma and family at Banks, Sturgis at Terre Hill, Gingrich in Philadelphia for Thanksgiving, and many locals hosting relatives from Akron, Reading, Mountville, Manheim, and Nazareth Hall. engagements and travels include Grosh at American Burial Corporation meeting and Weidler joining John Longenecker auto office.
A young man hired a livery team and drove from Lancaster to town in a race with a trolley car. The horse was exhausted when the owner found it. The liveryman confronted the driver and slapped him for his conduct, but the driver escaped prosecution.
A fine football game is promised on the loes gridiron this afternoon as locals aided by Todd and Hardy of Ful ton A. C. face the All Scholastics of Columbia. The visiting team, made up of former college players, is said to be fast and tricky and has played school teams all season. The game starts at 2.30 PM. Also note George C. Miller on New Street Warwick offers fish and supplies for sale.
Miss Hattie Eleanor Bomberger and Mr George Ernest Bomberger wed at 11 AM in Sunnyside Lititz with Rev FE Hagen officiating. About sixty guests attended. The couple will reside in Brooklyn New York after a reception and dinner. The Record notes how romance began via the paper with the groom’s father subscribing to the paper in Anderson and both families connected through readings of local news.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Dreifus of Philadelphia visited his parents from Saturday to Sunday. They wed in Baltimore on July 19 with the bride Emily Montague Wallace of Philadelphia. The marriage was kept secret until a recent visit revealed the news. Dreifus is a medical student at Penny University in Philadelphia.
Mr Sherman Chronister son of Mr and Mrs John Chronister and Miss Bertha Wolf daughter of Mr and Mrs Eli Wolf were united in marriage in Camden New Jersey on Monday November 13 They will reside in Philadelphia where Chronister is employed.
Edgar G. Leed of New Holland and Lizzie K Hacker of Ephrata were privately married by Rev. Marvin H. Stettler at his Reading parsonage. Unattended ceremony, bride wore a brown traveling gown, and they left for a short wedding trip. They plan to reside in New Holland. Both are well known in Lititz.
On Saturday afternoon at the U B parsonage Rev J E Keene united Edwin Eckert of Hallville and Alice Williams of Lexington in marriage. They were unattended.
On Saturday evening November 25 Clayton Young of Rothsville and Katie Moyer daughter of Mr and Mrs John Moyer of Ephrata were married by Rev C T Moyer at his North State street home in Ephrata.
Miss Syl via Gilbert will give a recital in Linden Hall gymnasium on Saturday evening December 9. Gilbert is an eloction and English instructor at the seminary and known for her reading ability and engaging personality. Tickets are available at Habecker's bookstore.
