New Company Takes Charge of CHARLES STENGEL Safe Works
The Columbia Steel Equipment Co of Philadelphia assumed charge of Stiffel Freeman Safe Works in town on Tuesday with Harry Gorton as superintendent. The new firm plans to greatly expand local business while president and vice president R D Holdsworth were in plant. Stengel, manager of Abbeville Riding School, faced Alderman Trapnell on cruelty to animals charges after allegedly abusing a saddle horse. He was released on trial. He is a son of Dr F W Stengel of Linden Hall Seminary and has a history of roaming ventures from apple ranches to insurance and horse business.

The season for ringneck pheasants partridges wild turkey and grouse closed Tuesday. Grouse are depleted locally while some partridges were shot. Hunters report many pheasants wounded with a few successful hunters, and bear season opened yesterday with deer season pending for some big game hunters. Roy Kneer of Eden paper mill reportedly shot a wild turkey in a northern county. Jacob Bachman witnessed a pheasant hawk fight with a hawk, ending with a pheasant prevailing in a fast, decisive clash.
