May 26 Ascension Day services and June 5 Whitsuntide observed locally with church activities and festivals. A town finds money. owner can claim at 127 E Main St. Graveyard flower theft reported at Machpelah. Rotary and Glee Club events referenced along with area civic news. Cigar factory resumed after month shutdown. lighting signals planned at Water Street crossing.
While digging a trench for telephone conduits at the corner of North Cedar street and North Alley a spring of running water was struck and caused trouble. A half century ago most lots between Cedar street Water street and along North Alley had springs and spring houses supplying water for homes until hydrant water replaced them as the supply. Times change.
William Birney Oehme longtime Lititz barber died Sunday at 12 45 PM at his North Cedar Street home after a 17 week illness following a stroke. He was born in Lititz son of William and Barbara Oehme and spent 35 years in the trade with brother Henry. A former local baseball player and county champion runner he was 42 years married to Annie Ruth. Survived by wife two daughters Mrs Charles Young Manheim and Mrs Ellis Spickler Lititz two sons Louis and William Lititz, 14 grandchildren and one brother Daniel Hast Hart. Services held privately at home then United Brethren church followed by burial in Moravian cemetery. Rev J H Light officiated.
Word reached here of an auto crash at New Dorp Staten Island on Saturday in which Jesse Honeycutt and family were the victims. Their car was hit by a truck. Mrs Honeycutt suffered fractured ribs and was taken to the hospital with one child. Mrs Henrycutt Dorothy Fry, visiting from here, was not hurt.
The Penn township school directors elected teachers for the 1927 1928 term. A Philadelphia grandstand collapse killed one and injured many, recalling a 1902 eruption at Mont Pelee in Martinique that wiped out a town and killed twenty nine thousand. One prisoner survived in a jail through the gas blast, saved later by American sailors who found him alone.

Miss Freeda Geneveva Marks daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Marks 148 North Prince street Lancaster graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital Training School for Nurses in Philadelphia Commencement exercises were held last Thursday evening The Marks family lived in Lititz many years before moving to Lancaster Mr and Mrs Marks and their daughters Nellie and Mrs Jack Epstein and her son Jean Gilbert Epstein attended the exercises

Charles Maurer of Indianapolis a two war veteran visited Mr and Mrs Frank Rader. He served in the Spanish American War and World War I with the 79th Division and was known as Dad among the troops. Maurer travels painting furniture and lamps and collects antiques. He described Mechanicsburg in detail to a local soldier after a playful trick.
John Fasnacht a Lititz High School basketball center has accepted the principalship and athletic coach post for the public schools at Bandon Oregon He attended Willamette College Salem where he starred in basketball football and baseball He taught school last year and is regarded as a top high school center He is a son of Mrs Alice Fasnacht of Lititz.
Lizzie K Schoenberger property near Rothsville sold to John P D Street of Lancaster. Quinton B Enck home on New Street sold to L L Eberly of Lititz. Properties to be occupied at once.
A mothers and daughters banquet took place in the basement of the Lutheran church on Tuesday evening served by the Ushers Association. Baked ham was on the menu. Mrs. Elwood Furlow's Sunday School class led the program with an address by Mrs. Henry Gibbel, prayers, musical selections by local youths, and readings.
The Speak-no-Evil Circle of King's Daughters marked its thirty fifth anniversary with a social and supper attended by thirty seven. Mrs. E B Crosland gave a brief address on the State Convention. other speakers included Mrs. H C Miller, Mrs. David Kreider, and Mrs. Alice Fasnacht. Grace Keller reported. Agnes Hensel and Maude Bearinger presented readings. Current officers: Mrs. Crosland leader, Keller secretary, Mrs. Harry Gorton assistant secretary, Mabel Leib treasurer. The Circle began March 10, 1892 with twenty four members. thirteen original members are now deceased. present membership is forty four. Dr. Albright, a foot expert from New York City, will visit Pfantz Bros. Store on Wednesday, May 25.
Benjamin Lutz moves on main street to convert a house into the new Central Market. The building will extend ninety feet in length with two open fireplaces retained. A garret apartment will smoke meats using fireplace smoke, while the front lower floor gains glass. The second floor will be rented as apartments.
Lititz expects a strong turnout for the County Firemen's Annual Convention in Manheim on Saturday June 4. The Lititz High School Band leads a 50 musician parade at 2 PM with the Lititz Fire Company HQ at the I O O F Hall. Fire school exhibits and a chemical demonstration plus an evening festival underscore the day’s events.
The Annual Conference of the Church of the Brethren will be held in Hershey Pennsylvania from June 8 to June 15. About 50 000 delegates from across the United States are expected with cot beds shipped in for lodging and nearby Lebanon and other areas preparing to host crowds. Main sessions occur in Convention Hall and Hillside Auditorium with hourly programs daily including laymen sessions June 6 to 8 a school of methods and June 11 a school of sacred music.
Homer Minnich, a farmer near Lititz, sold fourteen fat steers averaging about 1600 pounds. The steers were transported by truck to Lancaster, loaded onto cars, and shipped to New York. Price paid was 12 1/2 cents per pound. Minnich received payment from purchaser Mr. Gingrich of Lawn.
Governor Fisher disapproved the Diehm Bill granting 8000 dollars to United Zion Home of Lititz Lancaster county noting a prior investigation found the home sectarian and thus unconstitutionally funded by a charitable appropriation. Diehm disputes the veto and says Zion Home amended its constitution to qualify for funds.
A long list of locals and guests from Bangor Lancaster Lebanon and Philadelphia visit relatives in Lititz Ephrata New York and Virginia over a weekend. Notable mentions include Mrs William Jones Mrs Elmer Kauffman Mrs S C Hassler Mr and Mrs David Graybill Mr and Mrs Atlee Burkholder and the Mills family among others plus social events like a bridge party hosted by Miss Dorothy Habecker with a guest list of local young women.
George W. Hackman aged 82, Civil War veteran, visited fellow veteran Mr. Matthews in Womelsdorf on Sunday. Matthews is the town’s last survivor of the G A R post. Hackman enlisted in the Union Army sixty two years ago and is in fine health and a keen baseball fan.
The Cornwall baseball team plays Lititz on Saturday afternoon at Springs Park. Cornwall has had strong teams for years. Last season Lititz beat Cornwall in a ten inning game with Peyton pitching for the Pretzels.
