Lititz Beats Morgantown 3 to 1 In Weekend Tilt
Lititz opened with a strong pitching debut by Joe Sloat, offsetting frequent baserunners with key late stops. The visitors scored three times in the sixth inning on solid hitting, including two-baggers from Sloat and others, while Morgantown’s Showalter and Miller held the line early before Lititz pulled away.

No single clear news item in chaotic notes
A string of dated, aphoristic lines covers weather, politics, society, and daily life. It references dry spells for farmers, a Madison Square Garden Democratic meeting, romance and marriage, campaigning with steam whistles, pedestrian caution, self-reliance, football prep, nature versus paint, lemon demand for fall politics, vacation cash need, busy advice givers, fashion ambitions, bootlegging humor, and radio lateness with proposed morning features.

Behmer Victim of Crash and Many Close Escapes
The Lancaster area air crash killed Behmer and three passengers, Edward Bowman and Reuben Saul of Reading and Russel Heckman of Reading, as the plane struck the earth after a nose dive during parachute testing and a promotional flight from Behmer Air Service field. The accident follows Behmer’s prior near misses in 1919 and other dangers during wartime aviation service. The flyer was a former ambulance worker and business owner, with family in Lititz and Owl Hill, and his funeral was held in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

A mild smallpox case was discovered in Columbia on Sunday morning. Nora Gable, 29, wife of William Gable of 14 Walnut Street, is the patient. Dr. G C Witmer, Lancaster county medical inspector, confirmed smallpox after examination. The house is placarded with guards stationed outside. A 1900s epidemic had occurred 22 years ago with many cases but few deaths. A pest house was used then in East Columbia.
