Frances Frear in Leslie's Weekly recalls how Mrs. Frank Leslie, aboard with James E. Ingraham, popularized grapefruit in Florida by tasting fallen fruit and sending boxes north. The fruit’s reputation as a tonic grew after a physician analyzed it, prompting widespread demand and mass production reaching roughly 4,000,000 boxes annually in the United States and about 1,000,000 grown in Florida.

Sun as Power Station Dives Into Solar Energy Talk
The Chicago Tribune reports Sir J J Thomson at the Royal Institution discusses solar energy as a wireless power source. He notes 7000 horsepower per acre on sunny days and argues sun contraction rates keep energy sufficient, with heat radiation preventing rapid waning. A jet black object absorbs sun energy best.

Neck and Leg Proportions Across Animals and Birds
A dietetic and hygienic note argues that neck length roughly matches leg length in many animals and birds, reflecting feeding habitats. Grass eaters tend to have longer necks for reach, while crocodes, lizards, and fish have little or no neck. Water feeding fowl show similar patterns except bottom feeders like swans and geese require longer necks.
