A large crowd gathered Monday for the Third Liberty Loan opening demonstration in town. The event featured a parade by 46 members of the U S ambulance corps in training from Allentown and local Boy Scouts, followed by a mass meeting at the Young Men's Business League. Lieutenant Lackey spoke on the bonds as the best investment and urged citizens to buy for the boys in service. Sergeant Major Dickson, a Canadian war veteran, spoke with difficulty about shell shock and sacrifice before the crowd, ending with a pledge to continue the fight for democracy.

Narrow Escape as Auto Fire Destroys Garage Vehicle
Mrs. Harry Wenger and her four year old niece Dorothy Hornley escaped a fatal car fire at Lititz garage Sunday morning. Frank Burkholder moved the Saxon to safety, pushing the burning vehicle out of the building as flames spread. Burkholder suffered minor burns but no serious injuries. No insurance was held on the auto.

Dies Suddenly Haydn N Miksch Prominent Lititz Citizen
Haydn N Miksch died suddenly at age 60 after a brief illness on Wednesday night. A life long Lititz resident, he was a cigar maker, lumber agent, and Moravian church trustee. He was the son of the late James and Matilda Miksch and attended Rickert Hepp academy. Continued on page 5.

Lititz Boys Transferred to Washington Barracks
Edwin Wissler and Robert Farlow, among the last Lititz boys sent to Camp Meade for training, have been moved to the Washington Barracks in Washington D C. They join an engineering corps and express satisfaction with the change. Mr and Mrs John Wissler received a letter from their son saying he hoped to be home Sunday but was transferred instead.
