Western officials said a nine hour march by 500000 communist youths in Berlin failed to ignite violence as they faced Western preparations. Delegates deserted to the west and trains rolled out as police kept vigil and activities wound down.

John O’Rilly, 26, a war veteran, was arrested in Fresno on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He and 26 passengers were aboard. crew included Miss Heron who stayed composed. O’Rilly questioned the blanket to the door and warned of a draft, prompting fears of tragedy.
The Indianapolis Weather Bureau forecast above normal temperatures and showers for the Memorial Day weekend in Indiana. Five day temperatures should average 1 to 4 degrees above normal with a high of 66 in the north and 82 in the south. Rainfall expected from one tenth inch in the north to one quarter to one half inch in the south. Showers likely in Southern Indiana tonight and across the state by Wednesday.
Residents of Linton and nearby areas will honor war dead in a community Memorial Day program at Fairview Cemetery. The event, sponsored by the Frank Courtney American Legion post, begins at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday with Ralph Ormerod as speaker and the Linton-Stockton high school band performing.
Elks Ladies will meet at the local home at 1 30 PM Wednesday for their final gathering until fall. An auction contract and euchre will be played. All members are urged to attend.

Indiana motor vehicle owners face a record tax bill in 1950 with an average $71 per vehicle, according to Hoosier Motor Club Secretary-Manager Todd Stoops. He notes a 44 percent increase over 1940 and urges relief from rising motor tax burdens.

Richard Dick Moss aged 63 longtime Linton resident died at Freeman-Greene hospital after nine months illness. Funeral at Welch and Cornett with Rev Virgil Camp officiating and burial in Fairview Cemetery. Survived by widow Gail, two daughters Mary Rebecca Tomas and Lillian Marie Morin, son Clifford Clare Moss, nine grandchildren, four sisters.
Albert Henderson dies at ninety seven? No, the obituary notes 77 years old. He lived in Linton until twelve years ago and died in Kentucky called by the death of his father. RoO Henderson left for Vanceburg to attend funeral services to be held Tuesday afternoon with burial there.
A marriage license was issued by the clerk of the Sullivan circuit court to Don Howard Wilson of Sullivan route four and Nila Jane Bennett of Duger route one.
Linton students James McGhee and Jacquelyn Mead will be honored at Indiana University School of Music’s first annual awards day on Wednesday May 31. Awards include gold cups certificates and special recognition for state tour members of University singers men’s concert choirs and the symphony orchestra. Speakers include Dean Wilfred C Bain Col R L Shoemaker Fenwick T Reed and Herbert Hermann.
Thomas D. Vallese, 30, of Providence R I, was arrested in Gary Indiana on charges he transported a stolen vehicle across state lines. Gary police and FBI agents detained him in a car stolen at Omaha Arkansas, per FBI reports.
A United Press tally lists seven Hoosier fatalities during the holiday period, including Cecil Martin 45 Indianapolis drowned in the Muscatatuck River four miles west of Millport and multiple traffic deaths across the state. Eva Stratton 29 Indianapolis died when a car struck another vehicle and a stop sign question was raised.
New York May 29 Tiger Zombie and lioness Zimba form a pair watched by keeper John Himberger who hopes a tiglon will arise in time. The rare hybrid offspring of tiger and lioness is infertile like a mule and arises from companionship and nature’s course.
Arthur Elson a well known Lin ton jeweller underwent major surgery at Freeman Greene County hospital and is getting along as well as could be expected. Friends are asked not to call until later.
A 19 year old Sullivan girl Miss Ann Smith is dead and three others are seriously or critically injured after a head-on collision between a truck and car on State Road 54 near the Triangle northwest of Linton Saturday night. The truck driver Raymond Burris 22 of Linton reported minor injuries and release. The injured include Miss Sara Smith 16 Sister of the dead girl Miss Ann Smith and Charles Robert Stokes 20 and Jack Price 19 with various injuries. Police Ned Woodward and Sheriff Wagner investigate all details as the victims were transported to local hospitals. Miss Smith was a Sullivan High School graduate and previously attended Smart Appearance Beauty College Terre Haute. Survivors include her parents Mr and Mrs Cecil Smith and sisters Lars and Karen.
An inquisitive monk named Jerry the monkey explored a tool shed in Ormond Beach Florida. He tasted a jar of dynamite caps and was killed when the cap exploded. Attendants who had seen Jerry escape yesterday located his remains after the blast.
