Dr. J Raymond Shutz of Manchester college delivered the commencement address to 100 Linton high school graduates. He urged a personal life philosophy and a chosen career, urging resourcefulness when roads close and noting the awards presented by local civic groups.
Indiana counties are urged by Earl Crawford, chairman of the State Highway Commission, to report roads for inclusion in a federal state feeder road system. About 3.5 million dollars in federal and state funds are available for two years to upgrade roughly 3400 miles of county highways, with work needing Bureau of Roads approval and counties maintaining the improved routes.

A report notes Bloomington residents and people from the Bloomington party visited Linton on Sunday for a local community gathering. Local attendees included several residents and party members.
Indiana officials remind anglers that only seventeen shopping days remain until the game fish season opens June 16. Virgil M. Simmons, Conservation Commissioner, urges license purchase now to avoid rush. All residents 18 or over must have a license to fish unless on private premises. The license costs $1 and also covers hunting and trapping, valid to January 1, 1988, obtainable from county clerks, hardware stores, and sporting goods shops.
The Girls' Guild of the Saren Reformed church has postponed its meeting to Thursday, June 3.
Mr and Mrs Melvin Mathena of Fourth Street NW are recovering from injuries after their car left the road and wrecked near Linton Monday night. Mrs Mathena suffered deep facial and body cuts and bruises. The couple s small daughter LeMoyne was uninjured.
Indiana conservation officials report deeper wells and a rotary drill moved into the state may boost crude oil output. Operators plan to tap the Trenton formation in southwestern Indiana, about five thousand feet underground, far deeper than earlier productive wells drilled by Alfred Plew and Rachelee Ledgerwood. Benediction was given by Rev. H. G. Ramsey of the M E church.
Private funeral services for John D. Rockefeller were held at his Pocantico Hills estate with 50 relatives and close associates present. The 91 year old oil magnate died Sunday at his Ormond Beach Florida home after a fatigued heart, with Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick officiating assisted by Rev. Lester P. Bent.
Washington May 26 President Roosevelt was away from his executive offices for a second day to rest and seek medical attention after a slight head cold. He canceled all appointments on medical advice.
The Newark church near Bloomfield will hold its annual Memorial Day homecoming on Sunday with an all day gathering. A basket dinner is scheduled at noon followed by an entertainment program and speeches. Everyone is invited to attend.
Mrs Charles A Lindbergh has progressed enough that she and her 7 pound boy could leave the London clinic tomorrow. Reports said the infant might be named Dwight Morrow after Mrs Lindberghs father the late New Jersey senator.
In Terre Haute Indiana on May 26 representatives from District No 11 United Mine Workers of America and the Indiana Coal Producers Association outlined demands for a new strip mine contract. Miners presented 18 points and producers 10 with details kept secret at the operators' negotiations secretary's request pending further talks.
Mrs Andrew Pritchard and daughter Daisy with Mrs Walter Lawson and son Buril and Mrs Mary C Smith of this city left Tuesday night for Pontiac Michigan to visit friends and relatives.

A Switz City central sub station will feed branches to Bloomfield, Worthington, Owensburg, and surrounding rural areas, with contracts to sign for home wiring and bond-financed nationwide program partners listed.
Members of the Frank Courtney American Legion post will hold a regular meeting at 8 o clock Thursday night at the Legion home. All ex service men are urged to attend as a firing squad from past Sundays will visit local veterans graves and plans for squad activities will be made.

An insurance company estimate shows Linton residents received 16 000 dollars in 1936 life insurance payouts to policy owners and beneficiaries. Nationwide in 1936 life insurers paid about 2.83 billion dollars, roughly 44 million dollars per hour, with state life payments reaching 53.2 million dollars in 1986.
Federal agents join Indiana Ohio and Illinois in the pursuit of a bank robbery gang led by a boastful leader who vowed to outshine Dillinger. In Goodland Indiana suspects Alfred Brady James Dalhover and Clarence Lee Shaffer fled with 2500 after vault heist as a pistol fire wounded a state trooper and deputy sheriff. State police and 300 special deputies are mobilized with armed patrols and air support to halt the gang’s interstate activities.
In Terre Haute a protest meeting drew over 1000 Ninth district WPA workers seeking wage hikes and better conditions. Indorsed by district supervisor Ralph K. Bowers the telegram to Indiana senators and congressmen lists six points including a 20 percent wage increase and transportation for out of town jobs.
Funeral services were held for John Carrell a 52 year old former Carlisle resident who died by suicide at his Terre Haute home. He is survived by his widow Ola Carrell a daughter Opal Wolf and two sons George Leon Carrell of Clang Mont and James Albert at home. Burial was in the L O F Cemetery near Carlisle with Newkirk Funeral Home in charge.
The Church of Christ youth group will host an outdoor party Friday night at the Fred Strietelmeier farm northeast of the city. Attendees should meet at the church at 7 thirty p.m. sharp.
