Bloomfield residents Alta Pearson and Grace West underwent appendectomy and major surgery respectively. Linton residents Julius Cooper and Elva Landis were admitted or underwent major surgery, while Pearl Russell and Pat Prout had appendectomy and major surgery over the weekend. Bobby Tendick and Gayle Null were also listed for medical treatment.
Juniors and seniors of Lin ton Stockton high school host the annual Junior Senior banquet at 7 30 tonight in the Old Gymnasium and dance at the Elks home with Indiana University campus orchestra Chuck Smith providing music. Committees include decorations chairpersons Violet Perigo Stanley Collins John Headley Joan Johnson James Klien and others overseeing program banquets invitations and the orchestra.
Bloomington Indiana May 24 35 500 persons viewed a five week loan of master paintings from the New York Metropolitan Museum on display at Indiana University. The exhibit closed last night with paintings valued at 1 250 000 and works by several famous artists. Lawrence Wheeler director of the IU foundation said the turnout showed Indiana people appreciate finer cultural things.
A Greene County Farm Bureau meeting is set for 8 o'clock tonight at Newberry. Featured entertainer Oscar, The Plainville Magician, will perform. Banjo violin music will be provided by Bill and Orville Richardson. Organizing committee includes Arthur Rollison Ralph Hasler W N South Mrs Clyde Miller and Mrs Emerson Blackmore.
Abraham Bailey 70 of northwest Linton died Saturday night in Hillcrest sanitarium Vincennes after a year long illness. Funeral services were held at the Bailey residence with Rev. Joan Jerrell officiating and burial in Olive Branch cemetery. He was a retired coal miner. Surviving: widow Lillie Bailey. two sons Curtiss and Godrow. two daughters Violet Burgess and Margora Lechien. one brother Lewis. ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Newkirk Funeral Service of Pleasantville handled arrangements.
Mrs. Floyd McCullough remains in Freeman Greene County Hospital in critical condition following illness or injury as reported by local medical staff.

Paul Young of Linton captured the tenth annual Class B Southern Indiana Skeet Championship in Evansville, breaking 96 of 100 targets. George Haney and Loren Booher, both of Indianapolis, took the senior and runner up spots as Young finished fourth overall. In nearby Oaktown, Bob Young and T K Holden of Linton each broke 22 pigeons in a separate skeet shoot.
Governor Thomas E. Dewey gains prestige after winning Oregon’s 12 delegates by about 9 000 votes over Harold Stassen in a winner take all vote. Open pledges and unpledged votes shape the 1 094 delegate total with Taft MacArthur and others also listed among pledged and unpledged tallies.
Frederick Nolting 78 a Lone Tree farmer died Sunday afternoon at his home after two years of health decline and a prior heart attack. Born March 26, 1870 northeast of Linton he spent his life in the same home. Surviving are his widow Mamie C Nolting a son Ernest Nolting Switz City rural route two half brothers George and Frank Nolting and a half sister Mrs Laura Nolting plus four grandchildren. Funeral at Nine Mile church Wednesday at 2 pm with Rev Bobby Walker officiating.
Miss Betty Roach daughter of Mr and Mrs Raleigh Roach formerly of Linton has recovered from serious injuries suffered in a car wreck near Indianapolis and resumed her studies at Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute.
The State Department prepared a stern reply to Lebanon's refusal to release 40 Americans removed from the Marine Carp. Beirut had labeled the group illegal immigrants and said they sought Israeli aims in Palestine, prompting U N Security Council considerations. Twelve more nationals were taken off with the Americans.
Whit Carrico age 71 died at his home southwest of Linton after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were conducted at Bethel church Gambill with burial in Dugger Cemetery. He was born September 1, 1876 in Sullivan county and was a longtime Morris Chapel resident and Methodist church member. He leaves Florence Carrico a son Herschel Carrico in the U. S. Army a daughter Ophelia Benjamin Cedar Rapids Iowa three brothers Dan William of Carlisle rural route Strawther of Friedlandville and sister Mrs Laura Enochs Carlisle route one.
The Indiana State Highway Commission awarded a 15.31 mile widening and patching project on State Road 67 in Greene county to Bontrager Construction of Elkhart. The low bid was $202,685.68, covering work from the Greene Knox county line to south of Worthington.
La Porte Indiana a city of 18000 believes motor cars are here to stay. Street Superintendent H F Hoelecker announced the last municipally owned horse that hauled trash for the street cleaning department has been sold.
A 7 pm softball double header at Linton High School Park features Allen Flower Show vs Bloomington Sunbeams and Linton Moose against Bloomington Moose. Allen lost 11 7 to Bicknell Roof ing. Ducky Miller formerly of Linton pitched for Bicknell. Allen conducts 6 30 pm practice tonight at the local diamond.
United Press reports seven killed in Indiana traffic crashes over the weekend. Victims include Henry Bush 65 Muncie Helen Scott 24 Anderson Thomas Blincoe 22 Bordon Naomi Riggs 22 New Castle Victor Doyle 23 Terre Haute Mary Caskey 19 Somerville Daniel Worrell 55 Terre Haute. Three crashes near Muncie and two near Terre Haute.
Leo Friedman known as Little Sneeze and tied to Mercury Recording Company was shot to death by two or three gunmen in a dark West Side street. The killers chased him in an old model car, then fired three fatal shots after Friedman tripped over a fence. Friedman's widow, Carol, aged 26, reported they had just left their car near their hotel on Jackson Boulevard when the assailants opened fire.
Palestine fighting persists after the UN truce deadline passes without a cease fire. Israel reports ordering a cease on condition of Arab accord, while the Arab League contemplates extension and new Security Council measures. Iraq and Syria confirmed receipt of the Council order but have not yet consulted. Officials expect a meeting of the Arab League in Amman to decide next steps.
The Linton Eagles opened the night under the lights with an 18 to 0 victory over Black Hawk, as Wayne Trinkle kept the visitors hitless through four innings and Woolsley homered. They then fell 3 to 2 to a Washington team in a tight Sunday game, with a late ninth inning stand by the mound and Lynch pitching for the losers.
Kenny Coleman son of Mr and Mrs William Coleman of Linton now works in Leuvadia Cal has been made neighborhood commissioner of all scout troops from senior scouts to cubs in the BelMar and Encinitas area He was active in scout work in Linton before moving west.
