The Bloomington Herald reports Indiana University student George Grigsby was poisoned on a biology field trip and treated in hospital for three weeks. A poison ivy expert advises washing exposed skin with laundry soap or rubbing alcohol after woods trips to remove an irritant oil.
The third discussion meeting to reorganize the Linton Community Chest will be held at 7 30 Monday evening in the Council room of City Hall. Bob McFadden serves as temporary chairman and invites all interested clubs and organizations to send representatives.
Seventy two Lin ton Stockton seniors will attend Baccalaureate exercises Sunday at 7 30 PM in the high school auditorium with Rev R B Baldridge delivering the sermon. Diplomas will be conferred at 8 PM Tuesday in the same auditorium along with eight war veterans who passed GED tests.
Today marked the last day of school as high and grade schools held final class meetings and dismissed pupils. Teachers gather Monday while students return Tuesday to receive report cards. summer vacation begins and runs until September.
Cliff Strong of Linton has been selected by the Perfect Circle Corporation for enrollment in the Automotive Clinic for the Doctor of Motors to be held next Monday and Tuesday in Hagerstown. The two day clinic covers correct installation of piston rings and their relation to engine performance with lectures films demonstrations and exhibits.
Chicago May 21 Informed sources say the meat packing strike may end Monday at plants of at least three of the big four firms with unions urged to accept a 9 cent hourly raise from Swift Armour and Cudahy. Wilson & Co. may be excluded from the settlement.
Mr and Mrs Arnie Clark of Indianapolis announce the birth of a daughter on May 15 at St Francis hospital Indianapolis. The baby weighed pounds 8 ounces and has been named Marilyn Sue. Mr Clark is the son of Mr and Mrs Roy Clark of Linton rural route 3.
The Bloomfield high school class of 1948 will graduate forty seniors at 8 p.m. Monday at the Citadel theater with Dr. Frank C. Hockema of Purdue University delivering the commencement address. The program includes processional, invocations, diplomas, honors, and musical selections by the boys glee club.
A degree team from seven chapters will confer the Most Excellent Master degree on a class of candidates at a district meeting of the Western Indiana Arch association of the Royal Arch Masons at 7:30 p m Monday at the Linton Masonic hall. Linton chapter 132 hosts with lodges from Sullivan Terre Haute Clinton Rockville Bloomington Green Castle Brazil and Linton.
A boy was born yesterday to Nellie Wymer of Worthing and Richard Morris of Linton. A girl was born today to Mrs. Martha Martin of Newberry and a boy to Mrs. Martha Rogerson of Jasonville. Jeanette Brown of Bloomfield had an appendectomy this morning. Billy Chaney of Bloomfield underwent a tonsillectomy. Several patients were dismissed today including Maurice Haag of Linton Laura Heaton of Linton route 1 Sara Wilkinson of Vincennes and Geneva Lutz of Linton and Mary M Butler of Linton route 3. Lee Pope from an auto accident is improving after transfer from Martinsville.
Israel deployed its infant air force to aid Jewish defenders in Jerusalem as Arab forces pressed the Holy City. Ha ganah reports say planes attacked Arab positions around Shaafat village while ground fighting raged and supplies dwindled for 100,000 residents without food for a month.
Mrs Nancy Estella Gilbreath 63 a longtime Linton resident died suddenly at home on 189 D street NE. She was active in Saron Evangelical and Reformed church and Bay View club. Survived by husband Mahlon W. Gilbreath two sons Mahlon W. Jr. and George H.. brothers Charles Underwood L D Underwood. sisters Ora McDonald J E Williams and M R Pack. Body at Welch Cornett Funeral home. Funeral at Saron church Sunday at 2 30 with Rev H Raymond Voss. burial German cemetery.
Joe Thomas commander of the American Legion calls all veterans in Linton to wear a poppy on Poppy Day to honor fallen comrades. The observance marks May 29, the Saturday before Memorial Day, with Legion Auxiliary members distributing flowers on streets nationwide.
The Men s Choir from Indiana University will give a concert tonight at the Jasonville Baptist Church. Sponsored by the Jasonville Triad chapter, admission is free with a complimentary free will offering.

Grade school track meet at Oli phant Field showcases future stars from Northwest Ward Central and College Hill. Northwest Ward wins with 111% points, Central close second at 102% with top marks in half mile and quarter mile relays. Rose and Layman dominate 50 yard dash heats, Tannehill wins 100 and 220, Cooper takes 440. Trophy to Northwest Ward to be held until next year's meet.
The trial for Willis and Bobby Lundy near Lone Tree was not held as scheduled in Linton in Judge Grass's court. The defense requested a jury trial while the prosecutor moved for dismissal. charges of public intoxication may be filed in Greene circuit court at Bloomfield.
Three marriage licenses were issued by Frank A. Lenning Greene circuit court clerk at Bloomfield. Licenses went to Noble A. Keiler of Coalmont and Wilma Jean Taylor of Jasonville, Thurston Eugene Guthrie and Lois Evelyn Skemp of Newberry, and Lyle Hart Thomas and Ruby Ellen Goodman, both of Linton.
George P. Hovey of Linton route one, a student van operator, has completed a basic course in moving at the Mayflower Moving School in Indianapolis.
Washington May 22 John L Lewis refused comment on the coal operators request to resume joint wage talks. He sticks to excluding the Southern Coal Producers Association from bargaining while negotiating with individual members. The contract expires June 30 and industry figures accuse him of stalling to spur another strike.
In Dante Virginia six miners were killed when 50 tons of coal collapsed in Clinchfield Coal No 2 mine. Foreman Joe Rasnick survived with four other crew members as investigators cite timber support failure and a mine vibration.
A plea was made in Linton for donations to buy new uniforms for the Linton Stockton high school band. Residents of Linton and Stockton township were asked to send funds to Paul Lester Ralph Wolf Lowell Workman Harry Walton Wesley Branstetter or Robert C McFadden. The Band Parents' Club has donated 500 dollars toward a total estimated cost of 2500 dollars.
