Onville Research club members gathered at Miss Wesnidge home on West Main Street for a delicious luncheon and program on In decorating. Mrs Ray Hanna presided over the business session as Mrs Smith spoke on walls draperies and rugs. In Monts France on May 7 Mrs Wallis Simpson works on the guest list for her wedding to the Duke of Windsor. Invitations likely go out at the last moment to keep the date secret. The Duke allegedly informed his brother the Duke of Kent of the date and Kent is tipped as best man. Bedwell Case Delayed in Greene Circuit Court

In Bloomfield Indiana the Greene Circuit Court delayed the Bedwell assault case until the next term by agreement of parties. Hosea Bedwell and his wife face charges from a farm home dispute with Dan Lent and his wife. The Bedwells’ malicious trespass case was also continued as prosecutors and defense agreed for convenience of Norval K. Harris.

Vincennes Man Urges Local Youth First in Community Growth

Vincennes insurance executive FE C Steinsberger spoke before the Greater Linton club urging home town opportunities for young people. He contrasted two downstate towns, praising one for prioritizing locals and noting its growth, while condemning reliance on out-of-town leaders. He urged educating youth and keeping them in town. Charles Ballard attended as Steinsberger’s son-in-law. The meeting opened with a banquet and music from Bert Brown’s orchestra.

Barber Shops Set New Evening Hours Citywide

Beginning Monday May 10 all local barber shops will adopt a 5 pm closing hour daily except Saturday when stores stay open until 8 pm. Willis Pirtle president of Local Barbers Union announced the change noting Linton shops will close at 4 pm on weekdays along with other stores.

Mrs Pauline Strauss of Mooresville formerly of Linton was reported improving at Rockville sanitarium where she has been a patient for several weeks. Mrs Strauss is a daughter of Jake Jarmon of this city.

National debt reaches unprecedented level in May report

Washington May 7 The national debt rose beyond the 35 026 000 000 limit set by President Roosevelt and stood at 35 039 956 335 49 on May 5. The rise of 92 052 439 07 from the prior day stems from the treasury borrowing program of 50 million weekly and the gold sterilization policy offsetting credit inflation from growing gold imports at 35 per ounce.

Community Hall Meeting Slated for Linton Recreation Building

A 2:30 PM Sunday meeting at City Hall will discuss plans for a proposed Linton recreation building. The Linton Community Recreation Building committee invited the city council, school board, clubs, mine locals, and edges to send representatives. Data on local community buildings will be presented, and the committee notes visits to towns with similar structures.

The joint meeting of Linton city council and Linton park board scheduled for 7:30 tonight is postponed. Mayor E V Bull announced that out of town representatives could not attend, necessitating the cancellation.

County Commissioners Meet Pass Tax Warrants and Corn Sale

Greene county board of commissioners George Porter Jacob Flory and Asher Page met this week with county auditor Eskel Beasley and attorney Edwin B Long. They approved claims and awarded a 12000 tax anticipation warrants issue to Bloomfield State Bank at 3 percent. They also approved sale of about 1500 bushels of county corn to Ray Long at 127 per bushel. Viewers John A Cravens and David F Bland were appointed to assess damages from highway land taken near Shady Beach on White River.

Funeral services for Ben C. Humphreys longtime Linton resident who died suddenly at his home on 160 F Street Northeast will be held at 2 p m Saturday at First M A Church. Complete plans for field trials at Linton

The Linton Community Conservation club announces field trials Sunday May 9 at the Mitchell farm four miles northeast of town. Entries come from many towns and cities in the region with an expected field of at least an additional score of dogs.
