In Oslo area two towns, Sarpborg and Frederikstad, evacuated as deadly chlorine fumes from a Borregaard pulp plant pipeline drifted down the Glomma river. About 60,000 people fled temporarily. a few workers suffered mild gas poisoning. Valve was closed by engineers and all returned home later.

Freak storm drenches Greene county with heavy rains
A sudden rain and hail storm dumped four inches in parts of Greene county yesterday afternoon. Observer O. H. Brown reported four inches at Worthington while Elliston recorded 1.75 inches and Linton 1.21 inches. Lattas creek bounded by Worthington and Switz City overflowed flooding basements as the storm, lasting about an hour, passed. Brown noted yesterday was the warmest 1950 with a top 85 degrees at Elliston.
