Indianapolis reports that Clarence Jackson, head of Indiana's gross income tax division, said federal department and agency employees in the state will owe state tax on all income earned after January 1, 1939. Mrs. Julia Bicknell underwent an appendectomy this morning. A daughter named Judith Ann was born by Caesarean to Mrs. Olvie Fish on Thursday afternoon, weighing seven pounds. Jackie Strong, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Strong, sustained a fractured arm and was released after reduction.
A series of daily morning and noon prayer meetings will run Monday through Thursday in Linton in homes and at First Methodist church as part of Holy Week observance. Leaders and locations for each section are listed for April 3 to 6 with services at 9:30 to 10:00 am and 12:20 to 12:59 pm. A three hour Good Friday service will be held at the Evangelical and Saron Reformed church, with separate pupil services announced later.
Linda Kay, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Carpenter of four miles southeast of this city, suffered severe burns Thursday afternoon after falling into a tub of scalding water at the Carpenter home. A local physician reported she is under observation and expected to recover, barring unforeseen complications.
The sixth CCC anniversary will be marked with a public open house at the CCC camp in Shakamak state park near Jasonville on Wednesday April 5 from 1 to 5 PM guides will lead visitors through the camp and park grounds. A Sunday open house is offered for those unable to attend Wednesday. Of 195 men at the camp 59 were discharged today after two years of service. Mayors and editors are invited to a noon reception. Six year old Jackie Strong son of Mr and Mrs Cliff Strong sustained a fracture of the left arm in a fall from a swing at Northeast Ward grade school. The fracture near the left elbow was set at Freeman-Greene county hospital.

In Vicksburg on March 31 the Clear Creek Bayou bridge washout grimly raised Mississippi’s worst highway disaster death toll to 14 with rescue workers warning of more likely losses.
