The body of 61 year old George Delvin Goldman of Wheatland was found in an old mine pit near Wheatland by fisherman Randall Gray after a county wide search. Coroner Dr. M B Gossard ruled out foul play and suggested a heart attack may have occurred while fishing. Goldman carried nearly 70 dollars in his purse.
Linton residents will skip afternoon work Friday for Good Friday observances led by the Linton Ministerial association. A seven part Union service runs at Evangelical United Brethren church with intermissions, and nearby schools host brief services in five churches. Stores close noon to 3 pm to allow merchants and workers to attend.
Mrs. Dolly Cline longtime Greene County resident dies at Freeman Greene County Hospital after two months illness at age 74. Survived by husband Emmett Cline, five sons Earl Lem Emerson Dannie Louis, four daughters Pearl Laughlin Mae Sloop Doris Fields Beulah Duffy, two sisters Amy Terrell Hattie Roach. Body to Newkirk Funeral Home and then home of Dannie Cline. funeral plans pending.
Mrs Eva Weaver received a call from her son Pfe Weaver stationed with the U S Army in Panama for 13 months. He told his mother he would be home on furlough on May 2.
State Commander Harold E. Morris of the Indiana American Legion will be the principal speaker at 8 o'clock Saturday night March 27 at the annual Roll Call meeting of the Linton Frank Courtney post on North Main street. State and district Legion officials and neighboring post members are invited. A program of entertainment and refreshments will follow.
Mrs. Nannie Jane Keller 83 years old died Tuesday night at George W Brown's Marco home where she had lived with him for four months. Born May 10 1864 in Smithville she was widow of John Keller and survived by one brother Mike Deckard Mayfield Kentucky and one sister Hattie Daniel Carmichael Bloomfield rural route. Funeral services are Friday at 2 pm at Poindexter and Wampler Funeral Home Sandborn with Rev. L H Graham officiating and burial in Marco cemetery.
Mrs. Mary Utterback of Linton admitted Tuesday for major surgery. Mrs. Bess Stevenson of Jasonville underwent major surgery today. Mrs. Pansy Lawson of Linton admitted for observation. George Elliott of Linton admitted for medical treatment. Miss Judith Griffith of Lewis admitted for medical treatment. Fred Smith of Jasonville dismissed Tuesday. Paul Penna of Linton dismissed. Mrs. Emma Andrews taken home to Bloomfield yesterday. Harry Miller of Farmersburg dismissed. Dickie Decourcey taken home today. Mrs. Vena Mottern of Newberry taken home today. Mrs. Florence Murroughs taken home here today.
White river rose past flood stage due to heavy upstream rainfall threatening hundreds of acres of wheat in river bottom fields. Officials revised crest estimates to 22.5 feet at Elliston, closing roads and covering second bottoms as 62 degree heat and fair weather were forecast for Thursday.
Funeral services for Cleo L. Schroeder 35 will be held at 2 pm Saturday at Welch and Cornett Funeral home with Deaconess Nora Yoder and Rev. R B Baldridge officiating. Burial follows in Fairview cemetery. The body arrives in Linton late Thursday. calling hours at the funeral home.
The Linton Fire department responded around 1 30 this afternoon to the Starkey residence on Fourth Street Southeast. A small roof fire burned a four foot diameter hole in the roof. This is the second fire at the dwelling in recent months.
The public is invited to a 7:30 p m Friday talk in Linton high school auditorium by Wayne Guthrie Indianapolis News assistant managing editor. The talk covers his Bikini Atoll atomic bomb tests experiences, with no admission fee or offerings. Guthrie is a well known Indiana journalist.
Thelma Hammond and Earl Hammond face new developments as Raymond Davis, Indianapolis barber and Diane Davis father, produced a 1944 Marion county juvenile court order claiming custody. Thelma Hammond remains jailed in Bedford with bond raised to 2500. Diane remains with custody dispute unsettled.
Washington March 24 U P The soft coal industry urged President Truman to speed his Taft Hartley Act timetable to halt the 10 day old strike. Officials said an April 5 anti strike injunction is the earliest potential action as stocks dwindle and workers face idleness. Violence reports surfaced with three miners shot at Allais Kentucky and a 150 strong picket mob attacking Hartman Coal Company in Kinwood West Virginia.
Graveside funeral services were held for Merle Wayne Saucerman, infant son of Carl Victor and Florence Annette Apple Saucerman, who died six and a half hours after birth in Sandborn. Survived by parents, one brother Victor Bruce, and grandparents Theodore Saucerman of Edwardsport and Merle Apple of Sandborn. Poindexter and Wampler Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Premier Mauno Pekkala left Helsinki for Moscow to attend Soviet Finnish treaty negotiations. He travels in a Russian escorted plane while hospitalised for an ear infection. The six man delegation to Moscow is split on a military pact with Russia and Pekkala is expected to cast the deciding vote in favor.

It outlines vote margins, party splits, and the plan to raise personal exemptions and extend income tax relief, retroactive to January 1 with new withholdings May 1. Mrs. Josephine Simons Wilcox aged 78 died at 5 50 Tuesday morning at her Worthington area home after two and a half year illness. Born November 20 1869 in Du Bois county she lived most of her life in Worthington and was a Worthington Methodist member. She married Arthur Wilcox October 1 1913 and is survived by daughter Mary Freeman Wichita Kansas brother Delbert Simons Worthington sister Mrs W H Byram East St Louis Illinois and foster son Rex Willgus Bicknell. Funeral arrangements at Myers Funeral Home Worthington with services Thursday at 8 30 AM and 2 PM at Enfield Illinois Methodist church burial Enfield cemetery.
Carl Madden a 31 year old teacher returned to lead his fifth and sixth grade classes in Walkerton Indiana after a special Board of Education session cleared him of allegations of frequenting pool rooms and insubordination. The decision followed a threatened high school student strike and Madden had been suspended Monday by Superintendent Thomas Rademacher. Madden began teaching in Walkerton in September after six years in Warrick County.
Don Wade Foster 79 was found dead in bed at six this morning at his son Sheldon Foster's home near Lyons. A Bloomfield resident, he had visited his son in Lyons for several weeks and is survived by four children James Foster Venus Nichols Sheldon Foster and Mrs Charles Byers. The body was taken to Jenkins Funeral Home in Lyons for funeral arrangements.
Indiana Citizens for Wallace announces Henry A Wallace will tour Indiana from April 6 to 8 with events in Indianapolis Evansville and a rally in Indianapolis featuring singer Paul Robeson and a former CIO attorney and a radio commentator joining Wallace on the platform for the three day tour.
