An Indianapolis mother, 34 year old Mrs Earl Hammond, was freed on 1000 bond after kidnapping her eight year old daughter Diane Davis from a Bedford grade school and returning her to Indianapolis. She claimed Diane was from a prior marriage to Raymond Davis, and custody had been awarded after divorce in 1944. Diane had been taken to Bedford with Mrs Hammond later saying she had traveled to Florida for a physician’s advice. A kidnapping warrant was issued by Mrs Elsie Davis, sister in law of Hammond’s fourth husband.
