The State of Indiana vs Bill Hoese of Worthington on a school bus passing charge was continued until later in the current term of Greene circuit court. The delay came because a damage case was set for trial Tuesday, the Hoese trial’s original date.
In Bangor California the olive crop is being raided by woodpeckers and robins that store olives in fence posts. Drying olives reduces bitterness and makes them edible.
Mrs. Alice Coker Lunsford aged 69 of Fourth and A streets northwest died at 8 pm in her home after a one week illness. She leaves daughter Lena Neff Indianapolis. sons Earl St. Louis and Otto Dayton. brother Henry Coker Terre Haute. one grandson Otto Jr. Funeral at 2 pm Monday with Rev J Smith Sullivan officiating. burial in Fairview cemetery. Funeral home M J Atkin and Son in charge.
Firefighters from Linton battled a blaze at the home of Ed Greenwood at Third and D streets northeast and at George Liddil’s 589 North Main Street. Damage was estimated around 20 dollars. Fireman Shirley Osborn was bruised after stepping through the Greenwood roof during the second run.
Carl Krieble admitted for treatment today. Miss Ione Workman of Bloomfield underwent a major operation. Mrs. Lawrence Cunningham submitted to a minor operation this morning. Mrs. Lester Brunson of Bloomfield was taken home today. Mrs. Will Sparks and baby of Switz City were taken home yesterday.
Evidence was heard in Greene circuit court Bloomfield in the case State of Indiana vs Dustin McDonald charged with assault and battery with intent and malicious mayhem. Defense moved to direct verdict of not guilty on major counts. Judge Powell overruled the motion and planned to resolve malicious mayhem in final instructions. Two witnesses testified after the State rested and closing arguments were expected.
The Indiana clemency commission commuted William Jones life term for murder to an indeterminate 18 to life. parole eligibility set for February 1942. Jones aided in a Greene county bank holdup but had no part in the killing, court files show.
Firemen from the Linton City department responded to a blaze at Charles Kemp’s residence 80 Third Street Southeast at about 2 30 this afternoon. The roof caught fire but the damage was slight and contained to the roof area.
President Roosevelt announced in Washington that the United States needs new neutrality laws, citing recent European developments as a reason for swift action.

Norman Miller age 17 of Linton was sentenced in Greene county court to one to ten years in the Indiana Reformatory after pleading guilty to entering the Perry dwelling with intent to rob. Police report William Steele admitted guilt in stealing a car near Marion and taking part in the Perry intrusion. Steele and accomplices also claimed involvement with a stripper pond incident near Linton. Steele and Candler were sent to Terre Haute by Deputy Marshall Campbell.
The Frank Courtney American Legion post in Linton outlined plans for its annual roll call meeting to be held Saturday night March 25 at the post home. Harold L. Pep Plummer of Madison Wisconsin will give the principal address, a figure with national service credentials.

Len Bunger of Bloomington won first place in the Seventh District high school oratorical contest at the Linton American Legion post home. Four contestants, including Clifford Nunn of Brazil Martha DeBerry of Bicknell and Chester Stoeckel of Linton, competed. judges were Kenneth Norris Troy Maegerlein and Frank O. Kattman. Bunger advances to the Indiana state final in Indianapolis March 31 and will receive a medal from the Indiana Legion.
The one and a half story building once housing the railroad station and post office in Bolton Notch has been dismantled and converted into a chicken coop and garage, marking a shift in the town’s landmark.
