Washington UPI reports Army Private First Class Robert Davis of Fort Wayne Indiana was killed in action in Vietnam according to the Defense Department on Monday. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Davis.
Arrangements for a Patriotism themed parade in Linton honor Vietnam veterans Steve Hasting and Wallace Wison as grand marshals. The American Legion Post provides transport for eligible servicemen and a free meal after the parade. Deadline for units and floats is Thursday at noon. lines of march will be published Friday.

In Portage Indiana three people were fatally shot during an attempted bank robbery Monday afternoon. Bank officials Tony Gregory 55 Valparaiso and Douglas Parry 30 Valparaiso were killed and Howard Rekau 40 Chicago Heights Ill identified by police as the bandit. A wounded bank employee wrestled the gun from the robber and escaped.
Linton to start weekly garbage collection in Green Acres No 2 this week. Residents must place cans with lids at the street on Thursdays, with no pickup on July 4. Citywide reminder to use cans not barrels for easier lifting, per Mayor A M Risher.
