Four people died in a two car crash on highway 59 at 11 30 p m Saturday bringing Greene County traffic deaths this year to ten Six of the year s toll have occurred in the last nine days The victims were Frankin J Ashba 21 of Dugger driver of one car John F Graves 54 of Jasonville and Robert L Bennett 24 of Sullivan passengers in the Ashba car and Austin Wayne Letsinger 18 of Jasonville Itc 1 driver of the other car Joyce Keller of Jasonville a passenger in Letsinger car was injured and taken to Freeman Greene County Hospital with serious but improving condition Robert Webb 21 of Sullivan Ite 5 a passenger in the Ashba car was injured and treated for fair condition at Freeman Greene County Hospital Investigators said the Ashba car crossed the center line after losing control in a curve and struck the Letsinger car The Letsinger driver was reportedly speeding Lestinger born Nov 4 1948 in Linton is a Shakamak High School graduate Funerals continued on page two

Slayer Escapes Jail Captured After Chase
Michael Layton a 27 year old convicted holdup slayer escaped from Shelby County Jail Sunday and was captured today in Indianapolis. Layton fled during a police chase as officers closed in in Brookside Park area after a Shelbyville stolen car tied to him was found in Indianapolis. The vehicle abandoned near his in law's home tied to threats toward his ex wife amid divorce and his prior prison sentence. Layton had crawled through a small food chute in his cell door while awaiting a new trial for the holdup killing of an Indianapolis service station attendant.
