William G. Shepherd of Bloomfield, 92, one of Greene County's four Civil War veterans, will travel to Gettysburg for the Blue and Gray reunion. Leroy Todd was treated at Freeman Greene County Hospital after a Saturday afternoon three vehicle crash on Second Street. His car struck a parked vehicle of Frank Giuffre then Broadsided a truck driven by Hubert Stratton of Switz City. Todd was unconscious but not seriously hurt and was dismissed after treatment.

The U S circuit court of appeals dismissed Republic Steel Corporation petition for review of the NLRB order. The ruling clears way for the board to reopen its decision against the company after a long court fight including a May 31 Supreme Court decision that the circuit court lacks jurisdiction to restrain reopening.

In Terre Haute Indiana inspectors favor a new federal prison site with final approval expected soon by federal authorities.
John Adamson Sr 76 retired farmer of Stafford township died at home after heart illness. Born Feb 28 1862 near Marco he lived on his farm since 1885. Survived by wife Della and children Mary Hulen Anna Small George John Helen William Jean, seven grandchildren, siblings and many relatives. The Bicknell horseshoe club beat Linton 901 ringers 1521 points to 751 ringers 1177 points at Bicknell. Individual scores listed for both teams include Carter 127 233 and J Riggles Sr 133 231 for Bicknell and O Trinkle 138 197 and Alsop 125 194 for Linton. Linton plans weekly workouts Tuesday and Friday and a rematch in Jasonville next Sunday.
The WPA ordered wage increases averaging about five dollars monthly for workers in thirteen states mainly in the South. About 500000 workers in the lowest brackets are expected to benefit. The move, directed by President Roosevelt, was announced by Harry S. Hopkins. States affected include North Carolina South Carolina Virginia Kentucky Florida Arkansas Alabama Mississippi Texas and Oklahoma. No WPA worker will earn less than one dollar per day in any region.
