A historical review traces Linton’s early paper the Laborers Tribune founded May 24 1887. It details the Remington hotel at Main and A streets, the cooperage barber shop, local residences, old prices, and notes on the town’s growth including transportation and public events.
Mrs Lydia Workman of 24 South Jefferson Worthington was admitted with a dislocated right elbow from a fall at O L House poultry company. After X ray the fracture was reduced and she was discharged.
More than $14,000 in unemployment compensation checks were mailed last week to insured workers in Greene and Sullivan counties under the Indiana Unemployment Compensation law. The state total reached $1,558,219.58 paid to 140,447 checks, with 85,663 claims accepted statewide and 708 in the Linton office, 164 in Bloomfield, 257 in Jasonville, and 460 in Sullivan.
Members of Linton Lodge 560 F and A M plan a Wednesday get-together with the Order of Eastern Star in the lodge hall. The 7 30 p m gathering will feature a short playlet by the Star Players and other entertainments. Family and friends are invited.
Jack Edwinson of Dugger is recovering from severe burns to his hands after an electric cable exploded in Domestic Coal company mine number two near Sullivan. He was treated at Mary Sherman hospital in Sullivan and described as in satisfactory condition.
A haystack on the Taylor farm near Fairview road was struck by lightning during a storm last night and burned down, despite the display of fireworks entertaining residents of Linton and Greene County.
E H Bibler aged 85, a former Findlay resident, marries for the fifth time. His bride is Edith McGuckkin, 62, of Elwood Indiana.
A four and a half foot potato shoot was brought to the Citizen office by Marion Dale Pritchard of Fairview road. He said the shoot grew unintentionally in the basement of the Pritchard home, following a year of odd potato happenings.
County agent Arthur Haseman reports chinch bugs discovered in the area and urges measures at harvest time. He explains a creosote barrier method using earth ridges, lines of creosote, and post holes to trap and kill bugs entering fields. Creosote orders available at the county agent's office.
The Linton Merchants meet the Lyons Lions Sunday at the city park as Greene County Amateur Baseball League action. Switz City faces Jasonville on the Switz City diamond and Midland plays Bloomfield at Midland. Crowds grow as attendance climbs toward an all but certain record. First half ended June 12 with Midland and Jasonville 4–2, Linton 3–2, Bloomfield 3–2 in a tight race.

Mrs Alta Goodman 33 wife of David Goodman of two miles southwest of Linton died at midnight Friday in her home. Born December 31 1904 in Indiana she was 33 years 5 months 24 days old. Survived by husband and three children Wilma Leon and Carol plus father Mort Gibbs and many siblings and step-siblings. Funeral at Burns Chapel church Monday at 2 pm with Rev Melver. Burial prep at Newkirk Pleasantville then returned to the family residence.
Word of the death in Indianapolis of Mrs Minnie Hannan Butler widow of George O Butler a former well known resident of Linton was received today. She died at 1130 o clock Friday morning aged 67 born in Scotland in Greene county daughter of Dr and Mrs J W Hannan survived by two sons James H Butler a teacher in the Technical high school Indianapolis and John L Butler and an aunt of Guy Moss and Mrs Charles Taylor of Linton funeral services will be conducted at 10 o clock Monday morning from the family residence 5910 Lowell avenue Indianapolis and burial will be made near that city
A London cat owned by Mrs Selwyn Oxley of Ealing reportedly has five ears arranged as three on one side and two on the other.
Linton Tennis Club members travel to Bloomfield for a match with Bloomfield court squad. Four singles and three doubles are on the schedule starting at 1:00 p.m. on the Van Buskirk apartments courts on Lester Street, weather permitting.
In New Mexico on June 25 Gov Clyde L Tingley led a dawn search for Medill McCormick 21 and found his companion Richard Whitmer 20 dead after a fall from a cliff. Whitmer was found on a ledge 2000 feet up 18 miles from Albuquerque.

Ingomar Montana June 25 A Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific Olympian passenger train struck a special CCC train killing Robert Eskert of Averey Idaho and injuring 18 others. The derailed engine plunged down a long embankment and ambulances were sent from Forsyth. It was the second Montana wreck involving the Olympian in a week after a bridge collapse at Custer Creek near Miles City killed at least 53.
Senator Sherman Minton said he would not participate in selecting a candidate to succeed Senator Frederick Van Nuys. Van Nuys reaffirmed he would not accept a Republican nomination and may run as an independent. Minton, back in Indianapolis, avoided comments amid party talks and pending state convention.

Lyons resident Sylvester C. Hanley 73 died suddenly Friday of apoplexy while mowing a neighbor’s lawn. Born in Effingham Illinois in 1865 he lived in Dugger before moving to Lyons. He worked as a Pennsylvania railroad section foreman and at Maumee Collieries near Linton. Survived by widow Mary Burks Hanley seven children and many grandchildren. Funeral at 2 o clock Sunday from Lyons residence with Rev J C Foutz and burial at Prairie Chapel cemetery. Davidson and Son in charge.
Junior league baseball and softball schedules for next week are released. Baseball at City Park starts 1 30 pm with Glenburn facing Vicksburg Monday and other matchups through Thursday. Softball at Lin-Stock Park begins 5 30 pm with two diamonds in use. No admission charged.
Dominic Lanzone of Clinton and James Cardinal of Terre Haute, CCC camp enrollees from Jasonville, were released by Prosecutor John Todd after evidence failed to prove their involvement in the fatal crash that killed Sylvester Bedwell near Jasonville while riding with William A. Lawry. Lawry had prior sentence of thirty days on the state farm and a $25 fine.

Mary Lou Flory a 10 year old girl from Jasonville Indiana was briefly released from St Anthonys hospital Terre Haute then re admitted the same day after being accidentally shot in the shoulder by a hunter’s bullet while sitting on her front porch Her condition was reported not serious
Linton police warned that selling fireworks in Linton and Indiana is forbidden until July 1. They warned that continued violations will result in a complete ban on fireworks sales in the future.
