The mother, formerly Joyce Sherwood, and baby are progressing satisfactorily.
Committees announce plans for the twenty second annual Miners picnic to be held August 13 and 14 in Terre Haute. General chairman Charles Galloway says the event will be record breaking with larger crowds and improved modern attractions.
In Miles City Montana on June 22 the Milwaukee Limited disaster death toll stood at 44 with salvage crews removing wreckage from Custer Creek 26 miles east. Forty-three bodies had been recovered and one known victim remained missing. Additional recoveries occurred at Fallon and Glen dive with a body found at Sidney.
President Roosevelt announced a special committee of labor industrial and educational experts to study British labor disputes law and Swedish labor relations. Members include Lloyd K. Garrison Robert Watt Gerald Swope Henry I Har riman William M. Davis Anna Rosenberg Charles R Hook Miss Marion Dickerman William Chalmers and others.
A large crowd is expected as the Linton Concert band begins its 1938 summer concerts in City park at 8 pm under director J. Howard Lynn. The program includes marches overtures and a sacred potpourri with intermission and features Stars and Stripes Forever and Morning Noon and Night.
Mrs. J. P. Harrah of Bloomfield is hospitalized in Freeman Greene county with a fractured left arm and left ankle after a fall at her home this morning. Fractures were reduced at the local hospital.
Joe Louis weighed 198 pounds to Max Schmeling 193 as they prepared for a 15 round heavyweight title fight at Yankee Stadium. Promoter Mike Jacobs said the bout would go ahead despite rain forecasts with odds around 2 to 1 Louis likely to win. Attendees ahead of the fight were projected at over 80 000 with a gate near 1 200 000 and broad bets moving in.
William P. More than 100 members of Standard Bearers and other youth groups across the Bloomington district attend an all day rally at Jasonville Methodist church. Rev. M. O. Robbins of Edgewood M E church in Indianapolis delivers the main address.
Mrs James Gray of 250 Third Street NW has been seriously ill at home but is reported to be improving. She remains unable to receive visitors at this time.
Mr. Floyd Burks long time flagman at the Illinois Central crossing on Main Street is reported seriously ill at his home in South Linton.
The Public Works Administration opened the New Deal recovery drive with 50.65 million in loans and grants for 291 projects valued at 92.52 million. Grants total 41.63 million and loans 9.02 million. local communities supply the rest. Largest project is a Southbury Connecticut school grant of 2.58 million. By week’s end 2,000 projects totaling about 600 million are expected to be approved.

In Linton Softball League play at Lin-Stock Park Tuesday afternoon the Perkins Red Crowns beat Glenburn 4 to 3 while Triangle defeated Martin and De Courey. All games so far have been tight with small margins. Good crowds attended the contests.
