Washington June 21 U.P. The Senate backed a major social security expansion to bring 10 000 000 more under full coverage raise benefits and higher payroll taxes. The plan differs from the House and centers on broader eligibility and higher maximum benefits.
The Glenburn WS Club meeting planned for this week is postponed to Thursday June 29. Members will gather at the community club house for an all day session.
At Tinker Air Force Base hanger Oklahoma a pipe fitter Eugene Meadows unearthed a frog buried in dirt for about nine years. The frog is alive but behaves by burrowing and crawling backward into dirt rather than hopping. The creature has not eaten and shows no alertness to food.
Hollywood mogul H. D. Hover asks Los Angeles County to annualize about 25000 dollars to keep Ciros, the city’s top nightclub, from closing. He argues major stars and continued tourism boost hotels, taxis, and shops and cites the Hollywood Bow as precedent for public support. He claims studios are closed to outsiders and notes Southern California lacks comparable attractions.
A contract between J B Wilson city engineer and the Board of Public Works and Safety authorizes a $77 000 preliminary phase to extend Linton Municipal gas service to West Linton. Wilson will survey the system report improvements assess costs rates and testify before the Public Service Commission. fees total six percent of construction costs.

Indianapolis June 21 A three way race for the U S Senate nomination will top the Democratic State Convention agenda next Tuesday June 27 More than 4000 Hoosier Democrats are expected to attend two days of politicking ending with nominations for U S Senator and a dozen state offices Charles C Price Notre Dame Chemistry Professor and Eleventh District Congressman Andrew Jacobs have filed for the Senate nomination Alex Campbell Fort Wayne former U S District Attorney is also active for the race Four incumbents Secretary of State Charles F Fleming Auditor James M Propst Treasurer F Shirley Wilcox and Superintendent Dean Walker are expected to seek renomination for second terms The convention will also nominate for Clerk of the Supreme and Appellate Courts Supreme Court Judges for the first third and fifth districts and two Appellate Court Judges from the northern and southern districts.

In Indianapolis the Indiana Supreme Court sentenced Judge Norval Harris to 60 days in the Penal Farm for contempt. The hearing followed a clash with prosecutor John Knox Purcell over a grand jury probe and a ruling against appointing a special prosecutor. Harris faced motions for stay and new trial but was ordered jailed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elia O. Hineman 63 of Lyons will be Thursday at the Lyons Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Taylor officiating. Burial is set for Prairie Chapel cemetery. The body lies in state at the family home.
Peter Paul Dolian lifelong Coalmont resident dies at 80 in St. Anthony's hospital Terre Haute after long illness. Born Feb 11 1920 in Coalmont, he worked as a clerk-typist at Wright Field Ohio in 1944 before illness. Survived by parents Frank and Mary Dolian and siblings Frank, Mary. Funeral at St Joan of Arc Jasonville with burial at Calvary Terre Haute.
The Greene circuit court at Bloomfield heard the divorce case of Jesse Ray Ellis and Eva Lucille Ellis yesterday. Judge Edwin B. Long took the matter under advisement.
Mr and Mrs Charles Lambermont of Jasonville announce the birth of son Rodney at Mary Sherman hospital Sullivan on June 17.
Betty Lou Gorby of Coalmont and Robert J. Burks of South Bend have been granted a marriage license by the clerk of the Sullivan circuit court at Sullivan.
Population shifts show Sullivan County dropping from 27,014 to 23,569, a loss of 3,445, with Sullivan city rising from 5,077 to 5,430. Knox County declines to 43,313 while Vincennes and Washington city register gains. Daviess County increases to 26,689 and several towns gain, others lose.
