Indianapolis June 20 John K Jennings state WPA director ordered his five district supervisors not to make replacements or new assignments to the WPA rolls in Indiana obeying directives from Col F C Harrington federal WPA director He said 76054 persons are on Indiana WPA rolls the lowest since March this year.
Farmer Bert Cain of two miles northwest of Switz City died about noon today at Freeman Greene county hospital after a morning admission. A longtime Switz City resident and active Switz City Christian church member his death was reported with funeral plans not yet set. Kidd Undertaking of Bloomfield handles arrangements.
Lt Oliver F Naquin testifying at the Portsmouth naval inquiry praised Chief Electrician's Mate Lawrence J Gainor for entering the flooded forward battery tank and pulling the disconnection switch. Naquin said the act prevented a dangerous battery fire and aided rescuers as the Squalus lay on the ocean floor.
Countess Haugwitz-Reventlow formerly Barbara Hutton arrives in Plymouth with her son Lance aboard the Normandie from the United States. She says she is thankful to be back in England and fears of kidnapping for her son. Marlene Dietrich stays in her suite, reportedly seasick, during the ship’s visit.
The first Ladies Day at the Linton Municipal Golf Course will be held Wednesday with a 10:00 a m tee off. All club ladies are invited to attend regardless of participation, and the clubhouse dining room will be open for the day.
A Greene County cafe faced a fly problem and used nonpoisonous fly paper. The next morning a three-quarter grown mouse became hopelessly stuck while crossing the paper, leaving the restaurateur bemused and the animal in distress.
The Ellis Chore Boys 4-H club plans a demonstration on selecting a lamb at its next meeting held at Frank Wilson's home. Roll call included naming a livestock breed and sharing an interesting breed fact. Bobby Steele led games during recreation. Ted Ogle, a Stockton township agriculture teacher, attended.
Nancy Jane Bailey daughter of Mr and Mrs Homer Bailey underwent a major operation Monday evening. Her condition is reported to be good.

Berlin bulletin reports Fuehrer Adolf Hitler issuing decrees granting amnesty for political crimes by Germans or Czechs in Bohemia Moravia before March 16, 1933, and in Sudetenland before December 1, 1938, with exceptions for murder robbery and explosives. The total number covered was not disclosed.
Berlin reports that Germany has launched nationwide troop maneuvers with feverish fortification push along the Polish frontier. By September the army is expected to total about 1,500,000 as maneuvers continue across the country.
A large crowd is expected from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday for the first free street dance tied to Linton's Community Day. The Recreation orchestra led by Bert Brown will perform on a platform on North Main Street between A and B streets. Public attendance and participation are invited as monthly dances are planned weather permitting.

Townsend threatened at Chicago that his pension plan followers will turn the fourth annual convention into a political convention and withdraw Townsendites from Republican and Democratic rolls to form a new political entity. He condemned the existing parties as reactionary and said there is only one thing to do to shift them aside.
In New York on June 20 U P , jurist Martin T Manton was sentenced to two years in prison and a 10 000 dollar fine for selling decisions of the Second U S Circuit Court. Judge W Calvin Chesnut denied a request for a new trial after a two hour argument. The 58 year old former jurist had been convicted last June 3 of accepting bribes and loans totaling 700 000 dollars from litigants in his court. The judge called the penalty inadequate.
Dr. George C. Porter of Linton leads the 69th annual National Eclectic Medical association convention in Cincinnati Ohio June 27 to 30. The program includes Dr. Gerber’s torso murder findings, a pharmacological discussion on shock treatment in psychosis by Dr. Bixby and Dr. Williams, with Mrs. Porter chairing the women’s auxiliary.
