Drug Testing Ordered for GI Departures from Vietnam
American troops leaving Vietnam will be chemically tested for narcotics under a Nixon order aimed at rehab. The program uses urinalysis machines and may expand to all troops on rest and recreation and new arrivals. Up to 10 percent of servicemen are estimated to use addictive narcotics. Positive cases lead to medical observation and withdrawal support, with evacuation to the United States for follow up rehab. Negative results allow return on their original flight plan.
