The Linton softball league opened last night with the Linton Moose and Terre Haute American Legion earning wins before a large crowd. Moose topped Dugger 4 to 1 after a two inning burst, while Terre Haute Legion routed Worthington 12 to 0. Upcoming double headers are scheduled for tonight and Thursday with Pleas antville, Greater Linton, Dugger, and Terre Haute on the slate. The Linton Junior league opened with Templeton Tigers beating Wright Ramblers 6 to 4, with a second game set for this afternoon. Junior games run at 2:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Indianapolis resident Mrs. William Erhardt says her dog Blackie uncovered an embalmed foot on a city street and later helped locate a woman's body nearby. Police identified the deceased as a woman about 50, likely embalmed years ago and dumped with cemetery remains.
Fed lambs and spring lambs reached new all time highs at the Chicago livestock market with all prices rising. Slaughter lambs were as much as 50 cents higher and spring lambs sold from 32 to 32.50 per hundredweight with a load of red shorn lambs at 29.

Layne Northern drillers plan a fourth test well southeast of Linton on the Bill Walters farm to supply water for Linton Municipal Waterworks. Previous wells failed or yielded discolored water with fine sand. the third found shallow gravel and thin water-bearing layer. The test is part of a proposed waterworks improvement program considered by the Linton City council.
National Foundation reports a rise in infantile paralysis cases led by Texas with 342 cases and Edinburgh and Houston hotspots. North Carolina records 110 cases, Idaho 41, Indiana 28, totaling 1,227 for the year, about 20 percent above the prior year.
