Tragic Indiana Pedestrian Killed by Truck Near Jasonville

Sylvester Bedwell 56, of Coalmont, died early Sunday after being struck by a CCC truck and trailer on State Road 48 north of Jasonville. Driver William Larry swerved to avoid him but the trailer hit Bedwell broadside. truck and trailer overturned in a nearby valley. The crash occurred while Bedwell walked home from a Saturday night in Jasonville where he had acted as a square dance caller. Funeral set for Tuesday at the Coalmont Church of God with burial in Sanders Cemetery. Surviving: widow, four sons, two brothers, a sister, two daughters, and his parents. The driver and CCC enrollees suffered minor injuries. coroner’s inquest to determine verdict likely death as unavoidable.

In Terre Haute Rockville Merchants defeated the Linton Miners 6 to 2 to end the Miners bid in the state semi pro tournament Case pitched eight hits with eight strikeouts for Rockville Rhodenbeck drove in a run with a fifth inning single Perkins and Chanley had Miner hits in the ninth Rockville added single runs in the eighth and ninth and the Miners postponed a game with the House of David for a later date planning another match with Bash Valley Diamond squad.

In Miami on June 13 state attorney G A Worley fell ill delaying a Dade County Grand Jury review of charges against Franklin Pierce McCall the confessed kidnapper and killer of five year old Jimmy Cash. Worley's assistant Joseph Otto said the case would not be heard today and expected Worley to resume tomorrow once recovered from an eye infection.

William Jarrell Dies After Illness at 51

After a five month battle with heart disease William E. Jarrell, 51, died Saturday night at his home on Roosevelt and Eleventh streets southeast. A Lincoln Illinois native, he moved to Linton to live with his mother about a year ago. Survived by widow Katherine Jarrell and children Leroy Della John William Lara and Ralph. Funeral arrangements were handled by Welch and Cornett with services this afternoon conducted by Rev. Guy Ramsey and burial at Fairview Cemetery.

Three Die In Indiana Auto Train Crash Near Franklin

Mrs Velma Roberts 24 of Indianapolis dies Sunday when a car she rode in near Franklin is struck by a Pennsylvania train. Also killed are her husband Robert E Roberts and Fay O Masters all of Indianapolis. The fast Indianapolis bound train hit the car broadside at a crossing and dragged wreckage 1800 feet. The Roberts bodies flew 200 feet from the car while Masters was pinned in the wreckage.
