Collisson to Head Indiana Elks Association

Dr. William H. Collisson of Linton will be installed as president of the Indiana Elks Association during Sunday sessions of the state convention at French Lick. He is a past exalted ruler of the Linton lodge and the third Linton member to serve as state president.

Model Rocketry 4 H Project To Be Offered

Greene County 4H offers a new model rocketry project for members this year with county specific rules. Enrollment ends June 15. contact the County Extension Office or club leaders for blanks. Dugger Seeks PSC OK to Raise Water Rates

Dugger Indiana petitions the Public Service Commission for authority to raise water rates. The town buys water from Linton and cites a 60 percent wholesale hike as justification. The request would set a new minimum of 3.90 and raise a 5000 gallon monthly bill to 9.45 for a typical family.

Local Youths Attend Indiana Boys' State

Local students Mike Datena James Ball and Warren Onken Jr. will join about 927 peers at the 32nd Hoosier Boys State on the Indiana State University campus in Terre Haute. Registration begins Saturday at 10 a.m. at the LSU arena with sessions through June 14.

The Indiana Public Service Commission approved rate cuts for two utilities. Yorktown municipal waterworks customers save 12680 dollars annually. Sullivan County Rural Electric Membership Corporation customers with large power usage gain a total annual reduction of 4835 dollars.

Viet Cong Steps Up Attack On U S Bases Near Saigon

North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces shelled 102 targets and launched four infantry assaults on U S bases around Saigon as Nixon and Thieu prepared for Midway talks. Allied counts: 265 Communists killed. U S losses at least 4 killed and 18 wounded, with 16 more Americans dead in other incidents.

New 16 Inch Water Line Nears Completion in Linton

Work began late last month on a seven mile 16 inch water line from Linton wells at Lene to the pumping station. The project caps a 1967 initiative costing 766000 with 600000 from a revenue bond and the rest from an EDA grant. Completion is expected within three months with Ralph Green Construction Co. of Vincennes and J B Wilson & Associates overseeing.

The Apollo 10 moon pilots Thomas P. Stafford John W Young and Eugene A. Cernan plan a homecoming visit at Cape Kennedy Cocoa Beach with a reunion parade. They will later travel with families to New York to attend a Broadway show and establish an Apollo 19 astronauts scholarship fund.

Auto Collision Near Midland Injures, Notices Operator License

State Trooper Mick Inman investigated a two car crash on State Road 59 three-fourths mile north of Midland at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Billy Johnson 26 of Jasonville drove a 1966 auto north on 59 attempting to pass a 1968 auto driven by Clarence Bedwell as he turned into a driveway. Johnson struck Bedwell’s front end, skidded 100 feet and both vehicles sustained about $300 damage. Johnson was jailed on operator’s license charges.

Disturbance Strikes Indianapolis Black Neighborhood

A five block area in Indianapolis saw a supermarket burn and stores looted as rocks were hurled at fire trucks and police. Two white officers were injured and firearms and a walkie talkie were taken amid arson threats and hostile crowds. Authorities said the outbreak appeared spontaneous with militant leaders seeking to quell violence.

Missing SAC RC135 Vanishes After Takeoff From Shemya

A four engine RC135 with 19 aboard disappeared minutes after leaving Shemya on a flight to Bilson Air Force Base near Fairbanks. An extensive search in the Bering Sea followed with Coast Guard and Air Force planes deployed through the night. The Pentagon said the craft was not shot down and initial distress beacons proved to be faulty equipment testing.

Collision near Saigon pits Melbourne and Evans in deadly clash

Australian carrier Melbourne and U S destroyer Frank E Evans collided in the South China Sea 350 miles south of Saigon. The Evans was cut in two in bright moonlight killing 74 American sailors. Melbourne captain Capt John P Stevenson said he was on the bridge at impact in tactical control.

Air Reserve Unit Returns From Vietnam

The first of three C 141 Starlifter planes of the Military Airlift Command lands at Bakalar Air Force Base bringing about 80 reservists home from Vietnam on active duty. A crowd cheers as a band plays Back Home In Indiana with Mayor Bret Kline and Air Force officers present. Governor Whitcomb planned to attend for arrivals expected through the day.

Fighting reported in Middle East with several killed

Six Arab guerrillas and one Israeli were killed in three clashes late Thursday night, with four Arabs dying near the Damiya Bridge and two at Be er near Eilat. Earlier, Arab rocket attacks damaged four kibbutzim and seven people were injured. An Egyptian editor warned of a new Middle East war before the third anniversary of the 1967 war.

Linton-Stockton Athletic Fund Financial Report

The Linton-Stockton school board released the semi annual financial report for the athletic department. Beginning balance January 1 1969 was 9497.91 dollars. Receipts from January 1 to May 31 1969 totaled 7015.50 dollars and expenses were 5555.52 dollars leaving a May 31 1969 balance of 10957.89 dollars. The report follows.

Differences Among Allies Not Serious

U S officials at the Paris Vietnam talks said there are some differences with South Vietnam but not serious and expected to be worked out. Chief negotiator Henry Cabot Lodge left for Washington as talks proceed ahead of the Nixon Thieu meeting at Midway Island.
