Funeral arrangements for Harold B. Priest 49 of Indianapolis, formerly of Linton, who died Thursday after a three week illness, were announced. He worked at General Electric Supply in Indianapolis and previously managed the Oakley Store in Linton. He is survived by his widow Velma Mae Priest, daughter Betty Dudley, his mother Mirth Priest, four brothers, and a granddaughter. Friends may call at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home after 6 PM. Burial in Fairview Cemetery follows a 4 PM Saturday service led by Rev. Clifford M. Shaub.
Terre Haute Indiana State Teachers college honors Calvin E Rumley and Ralph K Wright for scholastic achievement on the 1957 spring quarter honor roll Wright appears on the distinguished honor roll with above A minus average Rumley earns recognition for between an B plus and an A minus average Eighty four students are on the regular honor roll and forty nine on the distinguished roll at the college.
The U S Public Health Service declared increasing evidence that excessive cigarette smoking causes lung cancer. Surgeon General Leroy E Burney said there is a high statistical association between lung cancer and heavy prolonged cigarette smoking. A spokesman noted the facts should be shown to the public, while tobacco industry figures argued no new proof was presented.

He released his tow rope to avoid a stone wall but was unable to stop, suffering a shattered leg bone and shoulder injuries with other damage. Doctors say he may need up to six months hospitalization.
Indiana weather bears a forecast of fair pleasant Sunday with temperatures near 90 in many areas and a five day pattern of variable warmth through next Wednesday. No heavy rain expected and readings anticipated from Lake Michigan to the Ohio River.
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Gabbard age 63 lifelong Greene county resident died at Freeman-Greene hospital this morning after long illness. She is survived by husband Orval F. Gabbard and three sons Lowell Gabbard Muncie William Farr Gabbard Jasonville Marion Marl Gabbard Linton eight grandchildren two great grandchildren and one infant son Paul who died. Burial at Walker cemetery after services at Providence Baptist church with Rev Roy Bridwell.
The county chapter of the Indiana Cancer Control Society reported at the library meeting that a microtone machine for in-surgery cancer diagnosis was purchased for 266.80 dollars. New officers were elected including Mrs. Sam Rotman as chairman and Mrs. H B Turner as second vice chairman. Judy Fish of Linton won a 500 medical technician scholarship with another 500 offered to a Greene county graduate.
Two defendants faced fines after guilty pleas before Frank C. Dean justice of the peace in Bloomfield. John H. Coonan of Lancaster was fined 25 dollars plus costs or 40.75 total for driving a tractor and trailer for hire without verified operating authority. Mrs. Lorene P. Bland of Bloomfield was fined 1 dollar plus costs or 16 total on a trespass affidavit filed by her former husband William Bland.
