The 74 year old Bloomfield covered bridge over White river collapsed Wednesday afternoon as flood waters rose. The east pier failed, leaving one 185 foot span wedged, and officials fear the remaining span may also fall. The wreck blocks the river and may require dynamiting debris. replacement cost could reach around a million dollars.
Aga Khan, religious leader and billionaire sportsman, died at his Swiss villa at age 79 after a heart attack. Prince Aly Khan and Sadruddin were summoned as heirs amid questions of succession. Aly’s daughter Yasmin had been visiting Rita Hayworth. The Aga Khan had estates in Paris the Riviera and Switzerland and was famed as a statesman and aristocrat.
Forty six Greene county 4-H girls from eight clubs competed in the county judging contest at Linton Stockton high school. Winners include Judy Dyer Celia Ropp and Evelyn Calvert of Worthington in clothing. Nelda Dyer and Joyce Strnogle of Worthington in Baking. Maribelle Wright of Worthington top in Food Preservation. Celia Ropp Patty Jean Marcia Pickard and Joyce Striogle among other top finishers in Food Preparation and Home Improvement divisions.
A Communist report from Moscow says Georgi Malenkov is exiled to a remote Kazakh power station and will be joined by Vyacheslav Molotov Lazar Kaganovich and Dmitri Shepilov transferred to other work. The move follows Khrushchev era purge patterns and signals a Lenist shift.
Caustic soda leaked from a 55 gallon drum at the warehouse on A street northwest, injuring between 300 and 500 dollars worth of toys and bicycles. Firemen pulled items from the floor and had to break into the warehouse car to reach the stock as proprietor Charles DeCourcy and his family were away at Shakamak State Park. Mrs Carlton helped the fire crew until DeCourcy arrived.
Paul Gaither the Linton fire chief underwent eye surgery at Union Hospital Monday morning and is resting in room 312.

Top individual losses include Gibson 100,000 Boone 90,000 and Daviess 85,000 acres.
Frankton farmer John Braddick keeps a herd of deer alongside 75 pheasants after buying surplus deer in Lafayette. He also tried buffalo and elk with mixed success. four does recently sold for 500 dollars. Deer are moved to the Ton conservation area and are fed by hand at dusk.
In Huntington Indiana a Connersville man Harry Henninger 44 and his 3 year old son Jerry died in a two car collision at the intersection of Indiana routes 9 and 114 near here. Lucy Oak 70 of LaCrosse was critically injured along with Betty Henninger 36 and John Henninger 10 treated for injuries. Cause of the crash was under investigation.
Members and sponsors of the Linton Little League will hold a one day event Saturday on downtown streets. Players in uniform will sell decals to residents to raise funds for the local program which is running low on finances.
