She died Friday at 219 North Meridian Jasonville survived by son Charles Neal Jasonville and daughter Iva McNamara Cleveland Ohio. Mathers Funeral Home Jasonville handles arrangements.

Newberry High School announces December honor roll with three top scholars Peggy Thomas Farol Christenberry and Harrel Martin all earning straight A reports. The list includes students from grades one through twelve with numerous named achievers such as Laurel Clark Evelyn Mottern Martha Bedwell Norma Nell Brookshire and more across grade levels.
Mrs. James K. Gibson of 509 H street northeast is reported to be seriously ill with pneumonia. Friends were asked not to call in person or by telephone for a few days.
Mrs. Wilbur Parks of Jasonville was removed to her home Friday afternoon. Mrs. Everett Hutchinson of Jasonville was taken home Friday afternoon. Mrs. Thelma Gilligan of Linton was dismissed today.

Lawrence Hale, 34, accused of taking part in the Steuben County bank robbery at Angola on November 22, will be returned to Indiana from Buffalo New York. Hale was arrested December 21 by six men. A federal grand jury will convene Monday to hear the government case as the Angola heist yielded over $11000 to three gunmen.
Charles Kern and Robert Cathey of Abilene were given life terms after a jury found them guilty of first degree murder and robbery in the July 18 killing of Clyde Boyd near here in Petersburg, Ind. The jury deliberated over eight hours.

Sullivan County grand jury charges Walter Cooprider 69 of Hymera with manslaughter in the December stabbing of Trace O Mahan. Tip Tipton Jackson township trustee is indicted for failure to provide aid to the poor. he is free on 500 bond. Mahan died after being stabbed during a drunken brawl December 22. Cooprider remains jailed.
Experienced tree pruner C. S. Whelpley discovered a cotton wood with a misplaced heart. The heart lies less than two and a half inches from the tree’s outer circumference, the farthest out of place Whelpley has ever seen.

A WPA poker game among three men in 1850 1852 decided the town name Mattoon in Coles county Illinois. William Mattoon, railroad construction supervisor, won and declared the settlement Mattoon to honor the victory and founding plans for a shipping point for local agriculture.
