Washington notes the naval powers near an end to the limitation conference and focus on detailed program terms. The Root subcommittee drafts the proposal to reaffirm naval warfare rules against merchant vessels and submarines, seeking adherence from all nations as powers adjourn to next week.
President Harding directs Secretary Wallace to convene a national conference to study current and future agricultural policy. The plan includes representatives from agricultural groups, state interests, Congress, and allied industries. Wallace endorses the move and will arrange participation and timing.
In Corbin Kentucky a Louisville & Nashville passenger train struck an automobile at a rural road crossing late Friday. Two women, Mrs Maude Brock 28 and her mother Mrs Dale Jones, were killed instantly. Oscar Brock husband of Mrs Brock, their three children and the Joneses 10 year old son Ewell were seriously injured. The oncoming train was hidden from view at the crossing.
The Linton Ad Club is called to meet at the public library at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. At this meeting spaces in the advertising sheet for the next Community Sales Day on Wednesday January 11 will be drawn. All business houses will be closed Monday for the New Year so attendance is essential and all members should be present on time.
Terre Haute December 31 Indiana coal operators have accepted President John L. Lewis invitation to an informal wage conference January 6. No change in their plan to meet miners representatives remains, though Ohio and Pennsylvania operators have declined. Penna notes Lewis may call off the meeting if others refuse.
Pittsburgh vein operators controlling the eastern Ohio field formally rejected President Lewis invitation to meet in Pittsburg on January 6 to arrange a joint conference.
San Francisco reports that Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle will be retried for manslaughter over Virginia Rappe's death unless an unforeseen development changes the plan. District Attorney Mathew Brady and defense chief Gavin McNab both confirmed the decision today.
The release of Eugene V. Debs from Atlanta federal penitentiary Christmas was an act of grace by President Harding, not a pardon. Attorney General Daugherty released the text of recommendations noting that Debs’ sentence was commuted and war laws violations remain unforgiven. He described political prisoners as not entitled to special treatment, insisting law and espionage act violations deserve penalties.

Thomas J. Jackson was elected chair man of the Third congressional district Republican committee to succeed M. Burt Thurman who resigned recently. Jackson also serves as chairman of Floyd county Republican committee.
A Bronx resident, L Krause, received a letter from Petrograd bearing ten 1,000 ruble stamps, revealing postage to New York of 10,000 rubles. The ruble valued at about 51 1/2 cents.
A Big Four freight engine plunged through a trestle south of Petersburg at 4 pm yesterday. Fireman F F Hilton suffered a broken finger cuts and scalds while engineer S E McGregor escaped injury after the caboose toppled. Train service will be halted for about twelve hours.

An alleged liquor running airplane, said to have flown between San Antonio and the Mexican border for six months, was seized yesterday at the Del Rio landing field on the Rio Grande. Authorities announced the seizure at the customs house in San Antonio.
