Officials of coal operators and miners from four states plan a Pittsburgh meeting to set a date for wage negotiations under a contract expiring March 31. District 11 leaders oppose government intervention while warning of potential strike on April 1 if new terms lack a wage increase and check-off.
An American built monoplane piloted by Eddie Stinson and Lloyd Bertaud landed at Roosevelt field before noon in Monoplane Makes New Continuous Endurance Trip. The craft completed twenty six hours, nineteen minutes and fifty seconds, setting a world record for endurance flight. The pilots endured cold with four of Stinson's fingers frozen.
Columbus Ind December 80 A girl baby the seventeenth child in the family was born to Mgr and Mrs William Wallace at their home yesterday The first child was born when Mrs Wallace was 15 the second a year later and the third when she was 17 Two sets of twins have been born and nine of the seventeen are still alive Mr Wallace is 50 and Mrs Wallace is 38
New York reports nine dead from wood alcohol contaminated holiday liquor and five blinded or seriously affected. A 50 year old woman identified as Miss Sargant died en route to hospital after drinking poison. A 14 year old boy, John Dooley, was taken from his home in distress, later treated at hospital. Charles Williams, a semi blinded man, died after consuming what he thought was gin. George L. Henry, a Brookline salesman, found dead in a Broadway hotel with empty gin bottle nearby. Remaining patients include two women and a man in Bellevue hospital, all suffering wood alcohol poisoning.
The Big Five naval powers agreed to cap auxiliary ships at ten thousand tons while not limiting total numbers. Britain and the United States proposed a pledge not to use submarines against commerce in war, with France Italy and Japan to state their stance. The Root resolution seeks to outlaw piracy by submarines and require noncombatants be moved to safety before merchant ship destruction, with final action pending committee work.
In Terre Haute on Dec 30, Judge Jeffries in circuit court withhold the sentence of John Webster, owner of a Coal Bluff soft drink parlor, who pled guilty to liquor law violations. He stated the delay was to avoid harming the miner’s family and warned that if miners strike on April 1, Webster will likely be sentenced then.
The forecast notes increasing cloudiness and higher temperatures tonight, with light rains likely Saturday. Sunday brings a cooler spell especially in the north as afternoon conditions turn chilly.
Pittsburg Coal Producers' Association said it will not meet United Mine Workers of America officials on January 6 to discuss a new wage agreement. The existing pact expires April 1, 1922, after a 1920 two year deal. John L. Lewis declined comment on the Pittsburgh action.

The event closes a two day session. committee members Freddie Schortemeier J Hancock W O Feudner George A Elliott J W Pierce announced another prominent speaker will be sought. the first day covers newspaper problems with business meetings at Hotel Severin.
Indian AP Dec 30 The American Legion Indiana state executive committee discussed strengthening co operation with the veterans bureau to speed compensation claims for ex service men. A cleanup squad has reviewed about 1000 claims statewide and the plan is to establish a permanent organization to handle claims immediately after the squad tour ends. The bullpen includes subdistrict managers for Indianapolis Evansville and South Bend with a Bloomington session planned.
Evansville Ind Dec 30 The Ohio river stood still early today with a flood crest near 43 feet. Western Kentucky rivers Green and Barren rise slowly toward station, while the Wabash White and Patoka have leveled off. Between Evansville and Paducah the Ohio is ten miles wide and much wheat is underwater, though damage may be limited unless freezing occurs.
