Local Boy Scouts in Linton sell home grown Christmas trees from the Scout Forest on land donated by mining companies. The program aims to plant as many trees as are cut each year, offering a fresher alternative to shipped trees and boosting neighborhood income.
Berlin dispatch reports U S Army Secretary Kenneth Royall says officials in western Europe asked for an increase in American troop strength in Europe. Royall, after reviewing occupation troops at American military government HQ, declined to identify countries or commit to an increase. He also stated he sees strength as relative and would not recommend more forces in Germany. He denied recent retirement requests by General Clay and cited 13 000 000 in Russian concentration camps.
Mrs Elizabeth Ann Hughes Cullison 26 of Linton died at Freeman-Greene county hospital after a few hours admission. Born December 16 1922 in Linton she married Lee H Cullison in 1941. Survived by husband parents Mr and Mrs John Hughes and two brothers Lee and Raymond Hughes. Funeral noon Wednesday at Linton Baptist church with services at 2 pm burial in Fairview cemetery.

Herbert Walton, 26, of Linton, was held in Greene county jail Bloomfield on charges of assault and battery with intent to kill after a Friday night tavern incident. He allegedly cut Carl Cooksey, who was hospitalized with a knife wound near the jugular vein, and was pulled away by bystanders.
Bill Kinnaman 21 of Lyons is in critical condition at Freeman-Greene county hospital after an early morning accident at the Smock farm in Switz City. He suffers internal injuries and is undergoing surgery this afternoon. No witnesses were nearby. it is believed he was caught between a tractor and a wagon.
William Axe of Worthington route 2 sustained painful but non life threatening injuries after a skid and rollover Friday evening. He was taken to Freeman Greene County Hospital where doctors diagnosed a fractured vertebrae in his neck.
A thief who stole five sample cases from the auto of Edwin J. Freimuth a shoe salesman took 117 shoes all right foot only but failed to gain a large haul in the common sneaker crime.
A Saturday morning collision on State Road 67 near Beehunter damaged two cars, each worth about 400 dollars. Oscar Harmon of Linton and O Dell Gardner of Detroit drove the vehicles. Gardner was arrested for failure to yield the right of way and fined 10 dollars plus costs. Sheriff Charles Mansfield reported Edell Clemens and David Vincent, both of Detroit, accompanied Gardner. The Detroit trio was bound for Tennessee.

John E. Brown aged 78 died at his Pleasantville home after a year long illness. He was a coal miner and a United Mine Workers member. Survived by widow Lena, five daughters, three sons, one sister, 19 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Funeral at Pleasantville Methodist Church Wednesday at 2 PM with burial in Pleasantville Cemetery.
Lilburn Lib Jackson 71 of Bloomfield died at Freeman Greene County Hospital after a Sunday stroke. He owned Jackson Abstracting Co with son Claude and was longtime Greene County assessor. survived by wife Minnie, daughter Inez Hunter, three sons Albert Claude George, brother Marion, sister Minnie Dye and half sister Jennie Hatfield. Funeral services planned at Bloomfield Christian Church with burial Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Charles Lawrence of Linton has been appointed Greene county deputy sheriff by sheriff-elect William Branstetter of Bloomfield. He has served on the Linton City police force since 1943, is married with an eleven year old daughter, and plans to move to Bloomfield soon. No successor to Lawrence was named for the Linton police force.
Funeral services for 73 year old Mrs. Lilian Buzan were conducted at Prairie Chapel church after she died Friday night at her home in the Prairie Chapel area east of Lyons. Burial followed in Prairie Chapel cemetery. She was born Aug 29 1875 in Fairplay township. Surviving are her husband Lewis A. Buzan two daughters Dorothy Chaney and Helen Burcham one brother W W Harris and five grandchildren. Jenkins and Sons Funeral home of Bloomfield handled arrangements.
Mrs. Helen Burroughs, while waiting for a traffic sticker in Indianapolis, was surprised as policemen handed her a bouquet of roses and $5. They explained it was part of a florists' association drive to encourage safe driving.
Two marriage licenses were issued during the weekend by Frank A. Lenning, clerk of the Greene circuit court at Bloomfield. They were issued to Edward Cobb of Avoca and Iris Jean Staley of Bloomfield, and Emil Sanders Jr. and Blanche Eloise Williams, both of Somborn.

During a heavy Christmas period in Indiana 27 people died in accidents from Friday night to Monday morning. Seventeen in traffic crashes, nine in fires, and one from a fatal fall. In Attica a Illinois woman died when a car hit a culvert near Williamsport. her family was critically injured. In Auburn a Spencerville woman died in a two car crash. In Terre Haute a mother and two children perished in a fire that destroyed their two room home. the husband was badly burned.
