A nationwide safety campaign and President Roosevelt's plea could not curb Christmas time deaths. The National Safety Council cites 525 fatalities from traffic crashes murders and other incidents nationwide. Illinois reports 31 deaths with four in Indiana, including James Macy 19 of Fort Wayne and others in Evansville Kendallville and Richmond.
A Greene county anti tuberculosis association report shows 668 28 raised in the seal sale drive, up 29 31 from last year. Stockton township received 14 07 from bangle sales, with Gar land Ladson thanked for his leadership. Town and county gifts include contributions from Bloomfield, Linton, Scotland, Switz City and many groups totaling 668 28.
William J. Goodfeld of Chardon Ohio suffered injuries and damage to his car in a collision. He sought three thousand dollars in common pleas court but the jury awarded him one dollar, which he donated to the Red Cross.
Major Gertrude Calvert of the Linton Salvation Army post issued a thank you note to local organizations for their donations. She listed Ajax Stripper Company $10 Little Daisy local $5 Local Union 3317 $25 and Local Union 412 $25, saying the funds provided stockings and treats for 250 needy children in the community.
Linton High School meets Bicknell in a Southern Indiana Athletic Conference game on the Bulls’ home court. Both teams seek their first SIAC win as they chase better position in the standings after a string of losses. Max Kidd returns to direct Linton’s drills while coach Jere Goodman refines the Miners’ offense.
King Phillip Cox 71 a retired farmer of the Antioch community died at his home Sunday morning from complications of diseases He moved from Paxton over thirty years ago and was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ and the Linton Red Men lodge He is survived by his widow Luca Ann Wright four sons two daughters three brothers one sister nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 am at the Antioch Church of Christ with burial in the family lot beside the church The M J Aikin Son funeral home is in charge of arrangements
Mrs. Mary Chaney of Bloomfield suffered a fractured shoulder and three Linton residents were injured in a late Saturday collision west of Switz City. The Roach car overturned after hitting the Sullivan group’s vehicle. Mrs Chaney was taken to Freeman Greene County Hospital in Linton with satisfactory condition reported later.
Mr and Mrs Hoyt Hash of Bloomfield are the parents of a baby girl born Friday evening at Freeman Greene County Hospital. A Caesarean operation was performed. Both mother and baby are reported to be satisfactory.
Revival services at Linton United Brethren church continue through the week with a 9 a.m. prayer meeting 1:30 p.m. children's session and 7:15 p.m. evangelistic service each evening. Special music by Miss Rose of Cincinnati and Miss Shrode of Central accompanies the preaching by the pastor. Mrs. Roush and Deaconess Joslin lead prayer meetings as the public is invited to attend.
Mrs Amelia Dunn a longtime Linton resident of 80 First Street Southwest marked her eighty first birth anniversary. She is grandmother to six great grandmother to seven and great great grandmother to one and remains active in home duties with excellent health.
Word reached here of the critical illness of Mrs. Robert Baker at her home in Blooming ton. She was formerly Miss June Riddle daughter of Mr and Mrs John Riddle of Washington DC formerly of this city. Mrs. Baker's infant daughter died at birth Saturday morning.
Two armed men abducted three year old John Bryan and his nurse Norma Schroy in Centerville on Christmas Eve. They held the boy for a 3800 dollar ransom. the pair released them unharmed three hours later. A kidnap car was found near Newcastle as manhunt widens. No ransom paid.
Dr J E Janney of Western college Oxford Ohio addressed the psychology section at the AAAS convention in Indianapolis clearing long held beliefs about feminine college athletes. He spoke as 5 000 scientists gathered for the two week meeting and promised new findings across varied topics from cockroach life to heavy water applications.
A violent quake struck near Tacubaya about 200 miles southeast of Mexico City. Observers rated its intensity at six or seven degrees, with several people reported injured and damage believed widespread.
House leaders plan to defeat the Ludlow war referendum proposal before it can reach the floor on January 10. They argue the measure harms U S foreign relations and intend to mobilize administration forces against it.

In Shanghat on December 27 Japanese authorities announced strict regulations against offenses to Japanese forces in China, applying to all occupied territory and foreigners. A Japanese spokesman said a grenade attack on a Japanese launch near Swochow Creek slightly wounded a soldier. Tokyo hinted at recalling officers linked to the Panay incident as a goodwill gesture, while Washington declared the Panay affair resolved with Japan's apology.
Benjin Kopf head of Ford Motor Company of Japan Ltd buys 1,000,000 yen of China incident bonds via Yokohama Specie Bank. Kopf calls the move natural and logical, noting foreign bond investment is nearly impossible under current exchange controls. Bonds are part of the second Japanese government issue and were arranged for convenience through Yokohama Specie Bank rather than the Bank of Japan.
Miss Betty Blackwood, a Marco schools teacher, suffered burns when her dress caught fire beside an open fireplace. The injuries are not serious but are painful, with an expected quick recovery.

Frances Griffith a Coalmont teacher had a tonsillectomy. Billy Lynn from Bloomfield rural route 3 underwent major surgery. Rose Melton of 160 C Street NW had major surgery. Mary Chaney of Bloomfield injured in a Saturday auto crash is reported satisfactory.
