In Bicknell Indiana at 11:00 a.m. Saturday the American building and loan Citizens building and loan and the Bicknell building and loan associations were closed by the state banking department. Applications have been made to appoint receivers for each association. If property values recover and the groups regain solvency the businesses may be returned to the associations.

Accident Report From Osborne Feed Co Truck Backing Incident
A child skating down the hill near Osborne Feed Co. was struck when a truck driven by Wm Sullivan backed out. The impact left the girl with a broken left leg above the ankle. The victim rests well despite the severity. Leo Letsinger, near Mineral, was hit by a car driven by Reynolds near Ridgeport while near his milk truck. He suffered a cut above the eye and facial bruises with no internal injuries. Raymond Brinson of southwest Lyons is accused of stealing Dale Blaker’s Ford coupe near Bloomfield Saturday night. Brinson allegedly drove it a short distance before abandoning it and is jailed awaiting trial.

Jack Holt plays the feature role opposite Nancy Carroll in the film version of Anne Nichols Abies Irish Rose. The Water Hole a Zane Grey special tonight and Tuesday features modern plot not strictly western with eastern city scenes. Lavish sets wardrobe and some technicolor scenes mark the production.

New York Dec 24 There are 24 092 370 registered motor vehicles in the United States an increase of 1 463 055 over a year ago based on registry records. Passenger cars total 21 486 596 up 6 2 percent while motor trucks reach 3 123 774 up 7 2 percent. New York state tops with 2 090 815 vehicles, followed by California 1 806 224 Ohio 1 662 000 Pennsylvania 1 649 400 Illinois 1 502 976 Michigan 1 248 080 and Texas 1 111 407. The 1928 rise trails 1927s gain of 1 125 022 as many cars were scrapped or removed from service replacements now account for about 60 percent of total sales.

Miner Killed by Slate at West End Mine near Hymera
Shelby urn miner Solomon Miller aged 42 died after a slate fall at the West End mine near Hymera last Friday afternoon. He suffered a broken neck and died soon after. Survived by widow Georgie four daughters and five sons and his father Solomon Miller of Jasonville.
