Seymour Man Dies in Mishap
James F. Reynolds, 24, of Seymour, was killed Tuesday when the automobile he rode in went out of control on U.S. 50 about a mile west of Seymour. The car, driven by Bob C. Borley, skidded and rolled 25 feet into a corn field. Borley was taken to Seymour Hospital.

Fire destroys half block department store in Chicago
A $1,250,000 blaze tore through a large Chicago department store on a Tuesday night injuring five people and forcing about 1,600 Christmas shoppers and staff to flee. Store manager Leo Goltz said around 1,500 customers and 150 workers were inside when the roof above the drapery department caught fire. Santa Claus was among those seen fleeing in his red suit. the roof collapsed about 30 minutes after the alarm. The building and its contents were a total loss.

Linton stores will stay open extra hours this week to accommodate Christmas shoppers. Banks in Linton and nearby towns publish altered hours with Citizens National Bank and Peoples Trust remaining open until 3:00 pm Thursday and 6:00 pm Friday, closing at noon Saturday. The Linton Auto License Office will be closed December 24, Christmas Day, December 31 and January 1. The third Turkey Day program is set for 1:30 pm Thursday on North Main Street between Vincennes Street and A feet south, with crowd estimates around 2,500 for the first event and about 500 more for the second.

Nan Arrested Here Admits He Passed Two Bogus Checks
Frank Columbus Remines, 29, of Aberdeen Md, held on forgery charges in Greene County jail after confessing to passing two fraudulent checks in Linton Tuesday. He admitted using a $15 check at Western Auto for paint and a hammer and a $10 check at Hamilton Rexall for a billfold and toothpaste, after banks closed. Police recovered part of the money and the paint was found in an alley near the Grand theater building. Remines, who had been discharged from the U S Army in 1950, said he lived on a Switz City area farm recently. Investigations continued this afternoon.
