Mrs. Marjorie McKeigue of Linton route one was discharged home today. Howard Thompson of Linton was discharged. Mrs. Billa Kirkham of Lyons went home today. Ruth Holsapple of Bloomfield was taken home today.
Clarion club members will hold their annual Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Margaret Ridinger Friday evening at seven o'clock. Members are asked to bring gifts for the exchange.
Donald Woodward of Linton died suddenly from a heart attack at 7 PM Tuesday. Born April 27, 1921, he is survived by his widow Jean, daughter Peggy Jean, mother Ella, three brothers Chester Fred and Hallie, and four sisters Wilbur Jones Clovis Booker Frank Pirtle and John Lenning. funeral set for 2:30 PM Friday at Mt. Moriah Church with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. body moved to Newkirk Funeral Home in Pleasantville.
Lieutenant Governor-elect John A. Watkins named Edward H. Stein of Bloomfield as parliamentarian for the Indiana General Assembly in 1949. Stein previously served in the Indiana House, was majority floor leader in 1933 and Speaker from 1935 to 1937, later becoming motor vehicles commissioner. In Indianapolis Schricker named Ray H. Bower of Tipton as chief engineer of the new State Highway Commission to take office January 10, succeeding Carl Vogelgesang.
O H Brown, US Weather Observer at Elliston, reports 68 degree afternoon temperature. He notes it is not a record since December 15 1923 saw 70 degrees. Precipitation totals 1.75 inches and White River rises five feet to 12 feet.
Acting Secretary Lovett said Russia will return 31 ships loaned during World War II, including three icebreakers and 28 naval frigates, in a note received December 9. The move follows months of U S requests and previous delays. Meanwhile wholesale food prices fell to $6.21 for the week ending December 14 from $6.33, with $7.02 a year ago.
A House investigator from the Un American Activities Committee said before the war a Communist agent received information on the Norden bomb sight. He declined to be named but said the agent got the data in non documentary form and that it was highly important.
Six people were saved by a glider pickup after a C-47 crashed on the frozen Stewart river in Yukon Territory. The five crew members and one passenger escaped uninjured, as Capt. George Accas called the rescue highly hazardous due to twilight and rugged terrain. The glider had been towed from Ladd Air Force Base to reach the scene after three failed attempts.
Monroe circuit court set arraignment for Saturday for Thomas Smith 65 and son Vernon 35 on charges from operating the Fern Hill nudist camps near Bloomington. They were indicted on contributing to the delinquency of minors and abuse of children after a raid in October found children sunbathing in drizzle at the camp and officials had earlier charged maintaining a public nuisance.
United Press reports say Communist forces pushed into Peiping suburbs and claimed capture of nationalist commander Fu Tso Yi at 5:30 p m local time. Government spokesman denies entry or capture, while Hu Shin of National University confirms siege and notes Fu remains in Peiping with about 70,000 troops inside and 80,000 Reds nearby.
Worthington high school Ramblers survived a scare to topple the Dugger Bulldogs 47-44 at Worthington gym. Brannon led with 21 points, Patton added 17, Hall 14 as Worthington improved to 6-0 while Sullivan fell 61-41 to Brazil, which also remains undefeated.
Samuel R. Bradshaw aged 72, a former Linton resident, died Tuesday morning at his Farmersburg route one home after an extended illness following last fall surgery. Survived by wife Anna, daughter Mrs William Amour of Cincinnati, sister Mrs Alva Witty of Linton, and two granddaughters. Funeral at McHugh Funeral Home Shelburn Thursday at 1 30 p m Rev Jack Anderson officiating burial in Roselawn Memorial Park north of Terre Haute.
Miss Barbara Drackett granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Freund of Linton sang several selections at a Dugger Study Club meeting held at the home of Mrs Catherine Harting Tuesday evening. She is a voice student of Miss Dorothy Dugger of Dugger.

Durns 21 of Kansas City Missouri received a 10 year reformatory term after pleading guilty to auto banditry and robbery in Vincennes Indiana He admitted tagging along to spend the night at the Parkers home before stealing their car and nine dollars He also disclosed a diamond ring seized in a Kansas City holdup earlier this week.

Senate leaders demand full ECA reporting before extending aid while ECA pledges drastic cuts on misused shipments and notes 87 016 metric tons of aluminum bought in Canada with 15 853 tons returning as scrap to the U.S.
Ralph Barnard a fifth grade pupil at Switz City school won a national cartoon contest by Young America Reader magazine. The December 9 issue announced his victory and he received his prize along with a congratulatory letter.
Vincennes, Dec 15. Harold West age 21 of Mr. Gilead Ohio was killed when his truck collided with a second vehicle driven by Henry Rehwald a Knox county farmer and fruit grower. Rehwald escaped uninjured, state police said.
At Maumee Coal Company Mine No 23 south of Linton fire damaged the preparatory plant last night. Fire started in a large steel drying cylinder and nearby wooden framing. 8 30 p m to 10 p m. Firefighters cooled the cylinder as workers estimated five to fifteen tons of coal burned.
Indiana State story reports William J. Liffe, 52, condemned killer of Clifford Gose, sent $40 to Judge Bain to pass to Gose’s widow Mrs. Lorene Gose. Liffe, life term convict since July 20, 1945, promised prison earnings to the widow and asked for larger payment, saying he regrets not paying more. Gose died after a tavern incident in Indianapolis following a prank on Liffe.
Anna Sigmon, owner of Sigmon Coal Co., scared off a would be robber in her company office. A short well dressed man drew a revolver and demanded money but she locked herself in a cashier’s cage and challenged him, prompting his retreat.
Ray Reed of Lyons injured in a head on collision at Hutsonville Illinois while driving a Delbert Shepherd Jr. brick truck loaded with 5000 bricks from Bloomfield Brick company. Reed suffers fractures of both legs and is hospitalized. A law proposal from a Vincennes firm and an attorney resignation to merge departments are noted.
The Ralph Green Construction Co of Vincennes submitted the lowest bid for the Linton waterworks project at the December city council meeting. The base bid was 337 524.09 with estimates at 580 000. Five bids were received and will be studied by Consulting Engineer J B Wilson before the December 28 council session. The project may require approval from the Indiana Public Service Commission and uses long term revenue bonds repaid from water system revenues. Plans include drilling two wells, laying 10 inch mains, hydrants and new lines, repainting the stand pipe, and extending mains to West Linton, Glenburn and Bon Ton. A new $750 resuscitator was donated to the fire department by the Lions Club, and the council merged the waterworks and gas superintendent positions effective January 1.
Pvt Charles L Clayton 19 of Linton killed near Strasbourg Jan 7 1945 served with General Patch s 42nd Rainbow division. He born Oct 18 1925 in Switz City attended Linton Stockton High class of 1943 entered Army June 1 1944 overseas Dec 1 1944. He is survived by father Arlie Clayton mother Grace Tubbs step mother Edna Sherer Clayton brother James Clayton half brother Arlie Clayton Jr half sister Joyce Elaine Clayton and three grandparents. His body arrived today and will lie in state at M J Aikin and Son Funeral Home then at Baptist church Friday 2 pm Rev Powell Forbes officiating burial in Fairview Cemetery. Linton American Legion to confer military honors.
The Salvation Army in Linton appealed for help to aid needy residents this Christmas. Names for Christmas baskets due by December 20, donations of used toys fruit and non perishable food are welcome. Toys will be repaired by the Linton Fire Department and Boy Scouts and distributed by the Army. Donations can be picked up by calling 270 J.
