City workers repaired a sidewalk at the northeast corner of South Main and A streets, leaving fresh cement that soon drew pupil initials and designs as Central School dismissed for noon. Local columns note election fallout and Army notes, including Gossypol weight loss drug.
An announcement says revival services begin at 7 tonight at South Mission church in South Linton with Gabriel Arnac and Rev. Mr. Sims leading the services.
Alger Hiss resigns as president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, taking a three month leave of absence while a grand jury investigates his alleged links to a Communist spy ring. Dr James T Shotwell named acting president as Nixon’s appearance before the HUAC is delayed due to a railroad wreck.
Mrs Susie M Stafford 57 lifelong resident of Pleasant Grove between Lyons and Linton died at 5 20 Sunday night after six weeks illness She was born August 21 1891 daughter of James and (illegible) McCombs She belonged to Linton Church of Christ Survived by husband Floyd two sons Wendel and Virgil both of Wayne Michigan a brother Clarence McCombs of Lyons two sisters Mrs Jennie Turley Bloomfield and Mrs John Edwards Lyons and her parents of Lyons Funeral home Lyons will host private services at 2 pm Tuesday with Waldo Hoar of Linton officiating burial in Marco cemetery.

Jasonville Assembly of God trustees sue Harvey W Hunter and others to quiet title. Culombe vs Stark was continued by agreement. Roach sues Barker for 500 dollars claiming unlawful breaking of a door and removal of household goods. Grosjean vs Grosjean divorce dismissed at plaintiff’s cost.
Donald Ellsworth Durns a 21 year old from Kansas City was arrested after an attempted robbery at a Vincennes used car dealer ended with $10 recovered and the suspect held at gunpoint. Police say he was on parole for robbery in Missouri.
Mrs Ruth E Holsapple Bloomfield route four had major surgery Saturday. Mrs Gayle Creager Freedom underwent a minor operation Saturday morning and was dismissed. A girl weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces was born by Casarean to Mrs Margaret Cooks of Linton Saturday. John Rairden Newberry admitted for medical treatment Saturday. Mrs Beulah Smith of Jasonville gave birth to a stillborn Saturday named Elizabeth Peari. Mrs Elizabeth Yates Linton route three underwent major surgery this morning. Mrs Juanita Rogers Bicknell admitted for medical treatment today. Weekend dismissals include several residents from Worthington Linton Newberry Crane Lyons Jasonville and others.
The Linton Fire Department made two runs on Sunday. At 12 30 a kettle of road tar at the old Linton Gas plant caught fire but caused no damage. At 4 00 in the afternoon a small grass fire at 559 H street northeast was extinguished with no damage.
Everett Morris 79, a retired farmer, died at home in Smith township after six weeks illness. Born in Owen County in 1869, he moved to Smith as a child. Survived by two daughters, a brother and two sisters. Funeral at Lincoln church Tuesday at 1 30 pm with Rev Lloyd Miller officiating. Burial in Worthington cemetery.
About 1 500 Nicaraguan troops cross 30 miles into Costa Rica near the frontier led by alleged Costa Rican supporters. The force, reinforced by 300 Mexican Communists, moves toward San Jose as President Figueres reassembles the army and seeks international aid from the OAS.
Atomic Commission chairman David E. Lilienthal says atomic energy will benefit humanity and will not obliterate civilization. He cites ample uranium supply, emphasizes civilian-military roles, and asserts the commission will develop the bomb for defense while remaining separate from armed forces.

Maneuvers included replenishment amphibious landing support against Argentina Newfoundland carrier air operations and tests in Davis Strait cold weather conditions.
Floods displaced nearly a thousand people in the Pacific Northwest led by Oregon as the Willamette River rose above flood stage. A broad Midwest fog slowed highways and trains while a cold air mass threatened colder temperatures ahead.
Chicago officials report five deaths from a downtown hotel fire on the Victoria Hotel fifth floor. Eight residents were hospitalized and emergency crews say a cigarette likely sparked the blaze. Previous Capitol Hotel blaze prompted evacuations with several guests escaping by sheet lines.
A warm December day gave way to dense fog across Indiana slowing traffic and delaying flights. In Gr County a wreck on state routes 57 and 67 north of Worthington involved a truck loaded with freight. Ten people were injured in a fog wreck near Columbus.
