Thomas Van Buskirk 76, former Greene circuit judge, died at Methodist hospital Indianapolis after weeks of illness. Cremation planned in Indianapolis and private funeral set for Sunday at Van Lyke cemetery Bloomfield. survivors include son Fredlock and daughter Maurine, one sister Mrs Rose Fredlock, and brother John Van Buskirk.
Bloomfield high school's veteran team defeated Switz City 43 to 31 on Cardinal floor. After a 6-6 start, Bloomfield pulled ahead 16-10 by halftime and 29-16 after three periods. Halderman led with five field goals and three foul shots. Switz City suffered its second loss of the season, the other to Plainville’s 1937 Wabash Valley champions.
The Pleasantville Midgets defeated the Carlisle basketeers 55 13 on Pleasantville floor. Meurer led with fourteen points, including six field goals and two free throws, while Wooduff added eight. Monroe topped Carlisle with five points.
Donie Welch of Prospect Park Pa visited Liston with his grandmother Mrs A C Welch and his uncle Harry Welch. He was accompanied by Paul Fisk of Terre Haute a cousin.
Jasonville Indiana December 11 Alex Andrews 73 died at 9:00 am Friday at his home on South Lawton street after an extended illness. He is survived by a brother Joe of Evansville and a niece Mrs Bud Rogers of Jasonville. Funeral services set for 1 pm Sunday at his residence with Rev Zella Anthony officiating. Burial in Cottage Hill cemetery Brazil. Mathers Funeral home in charge.
William E. Musser, 62, longtime White Rose resident, died at his home after an eight day pneumonia illness. Born January 19, 1875 in Vincennes, he lived in White Rose for sixteen years and previously worked in coal mining and farming. Survived by widow Bertha Musser. Funeral arrangements: service Monday at 1:30 p.m. in White Rose Church, Rev. John Lenningss officiating. burial in Marco Cemetery.
Thousands of Japanese troops storm Chinese positions in Nanking as encirclement advances. An army spokesman says a formal entry will not be delayed and depicts strong Chinese opposition. Japanese claims of gains include breaking the ancient wall with heavy shells and tanks leading the assault.
Clark County players Beasley of Linton and Oliphant Halderman of Bloomfield earned honorable mention on Clark’s All State Indiana high school football selections. Halderman and Oliphant made the second team with Beasley also cited as honorable mention. other honored players include Edds Sullivan Offat Vincennes and Benefiel Sullivan.
Utica authorities unable to convict drivers charged with driving while intoxicated issue an order requiring a physician's written decision to obtain warrants. The new rule, issued by the Utica Police Department, mandates medical endorsement for Warrant applications.
Harry G. Leslie 59 a former governor of Indiana from 1929 to 1933 and president of the Standard Life Insurance Co of Indianapolis since 1934 died in Miami Florida from a heart attack He and his wife had traveled south for health reasons He was rushed to St Francis hospital where doctors said his condition was good shortly before his death Funeral services were set for Tuesday in Indianapolis with burial at Crown Hill cemetery Leslie began as a Lafayette grocery clerk and rose to state leadership of Indiana Republicans
The annual rabbit fry at the Frank Courtney American Legion post will be held tonight at 8 oclock. Sixty rabbits are to be prepared for attendees including ex service men visitors and guests. A program of entertainment and speeches has been arranged by the post members in charge.
Washington report says the administration holds at least a 15 vote Senate majority to defeat attacks on its crop control bill. Despite a motion for recommittment and a substitute measure, opposition estimations show about 32 favoring recommital, with some wavering. Ten working days remain in the special session, leaving enactment chances uncertain.

Superior Judge Joseph R Williams ruled enforcement of the 1937 law requiring mechanical turn signals for trucks would be delayed until after February 1, 1938. The decision follows an agreement between truck owners and state officials reached in a restraining order suit filed last week by the Indiana Regulated Highway Carriers Inc.

President Roosevelt sent to the Senate the nomination of Walter E. Treanor of Indiana to be judge of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. Treanor, currently a member of the Indiana Supreme Court, fills the vacancy caused by Judge Samuel Alschuler's retirement.
A one story Amhem co plant in Danville Illinois burned today believed incendiary. 2,400 tons of hemp were destroyed. Loss estimated at 500000 dollars. The plant is owned by Ball Brothers Co. of Muncie.
Vincennes defeats Linton 54 to 28 in a fast paced game at Vincennes. After a slow first quarter, Vincennes led 19 to 6 at halftime before pulling away despite Linton’s third quarter surge. Bell led the hosts with strong inside play and Beasley kept the visitors in range early.
The Linton Associated Charities report strong donations of second hand toys money and groceries from residents and calls to 584J or 268W. They aim to fill 150 to 200 baskets for the needy with help from Greene county NYA and WPA crews repairing donated toys. Roy W. Glen announces Scout Christmas trees for sale on North Main Street.

George Sherman Small aged 72 died at his home near Scotland after five years residence there moving from Booneville. He leaves widow Arra Small two brothers Lewis and John Small of Russellville Alabama and two sisters Emma Smith Evansville and Rosie Walters Clinton. Funeral services set for Sunday in Booneville with brief services held at the family residence Friday.
