Indiana Governor Opposed to Ku Klux Klan Name

Governor McCray said he is opposed to any organization using the Ku Klux Klan name due to its Reconstruction era lawlessness. He noted he knew nothing of a Indiana certificate to organize the Klan and stressed he does not support the group. The Klan was chartered in Georgia and the Indiana permit came from the secretary of state after foreign-corporation filings.

Hearing of Negroes Set for September 6

Preliminary hearing for three negroes charged with assaulting three women near Warmersburg is set for September 6 before Justice C. H. Lester in Sullivan. They are held at the Jeffersonville reformatory after a rushed transfer to avert lynching. Officials plan to arraign them in Sullivan County on that date.

Auto Bandits Kidnap Man Near Bruceville

Leamon T. Rayburn of Marion, traveling from his home to Terre Haute in a Dodge, was abducted by bandits about four miles north of Bruceville. They forced him into their car, did not harm him, and later dropped him near Terre Haute. He lost $50 to $60 and four silk shirts and a vest. Vincennes police traced and recovered the abandoned car to its owner.

Washington announces Homer Hart will be postmaster at Linton after receiving the highest civil service grade in the examination. Hart has eight years as deputy postmaster at Linton and four years in Washington as secretary to Representative Bland. His home support spans both parties.
