A girl was born last night to Mrs Paul Franklin of Linton. Miss Wilma Thompson of Bloomfield had an appendectomy Wednesday night. Alva Greene of Jasonville route 1 was admitted for medical treatment today. Joah Grafe of Coal City was admitted for observation and dismissed later. Mrs Estree Haywood was taken to her home in Bloomfield this morning.
Edmond EB Edington leaves his mother Mrs. Ed Bone in Edmond to return to Dayton Ohio where he will attend a training school for the National Cash Register company.
In central Berlin four German civilians were killed and eight injured when German police from the Soviet sector fired into the British sector during a black market raid at Potsdamer Platz. The violence spread as a mob of about 4,000 attacked a Communist party district headquarters in the Soviet sector.
Babe Ruth was buried in Valhalla New York after a drenching rain as 8500 attended St Patrick's Cathedral Mass and 50000 stood outside. A graveside prayer followed at Heaven Cemetery in Westchester after a somber procession.

Oksana Kosenkia, a 52 year old Russian schoolteacher, remained in critical condition at Roosevelt Hospital New York. A doctor asked the Soviet Consulate to appoint a qualified physician to consult. the consul promised to send a physician. She had been hospitalized after leaping from a third floor window at the consulate a week earlier.
William E. Wiley 71 father of George Wiley of Linton died suddenly at his Bloomington home. He owned an awning company and is survived by his widow, three sons, and two daughters. Funeral arrangements were not set.
Fifty candidates for the 1948 Linton high school Miners football team sweat through conditioning at Oliphant field aiming for positions before the opener with Gerstmeyer Black Cats of Terre Haute on Sept. 10. Drills run 10 am and 3 pm with scrimmages planned next week once lights return. Coach Roy Williams notes some leading candidates gained fat during summer but remains hopeful.

Chicago hogs brought 31.75 a record, while retailers warn they cannot absorb higher costs and expect retail gains nationwide. Housewives continue meat boycotts as butchers note slow turnover and a 5 to 6 cent per pound rise likely in New York within about ten days.

Perry Franklin former resident of Linton died suddenly this morning at his Long Beach California home. He left Linton about twenty years ago and was a World War I veteran with past membership in the Linton Masonic lodge. Surviving are three sisters Irene Banks Mona Morgan of Linton and Ura Hyslop of Terre Haute.
Funeral services were held for Oliver Brewer 78 formerly of Newberry who died at Edwardsport He spent most of his life in Cass township serving as assessor and trustee and later as Greene County attendance officer.
President Truman denounces Congressional spy hearings as an infringement on American rights while defending the loyalty program. He asserts no wartime U S secrets leaked and pledges asylum for three Soviet teachers in New York amid diplomatic protests.
President Truman stated that the future administration of former Italian colonies in Africa is not an American political issue and should be decided by the United Nations and major powers. He responded to Gov. Thomas E. Dewey’s suggestion of United Nations Trusteeship for Italy's former colonies.
Hog prices rose to an all time top of 31.25 per hundredweight at the Indianapolis stockyards as early sales of good and choice hogs, 170 to 250 pounds, reached the new peak. Officials noted a deck of hogs of similar grade had sold for the same price on August 2.
Maurice Boyles a 14-year-old farm youth says he trapped Charles Riggles 37 as he fled his father's henhouse turning on the shotgun blast. Riggles, found at his nearby farm, was shot by buckshot and jailed in Knox County. Authorities plan petit larceny charges against Riggles.
