Herman Hopper of Mitchell Indiana 21 is charged with kidnapping after his 16 year old fiancée Bessie Bartlett disappeared with him. Police found them and Hopper is jailed awaiting court reconvening next month. Bartlett reportedly gave permission to marry.
An eight year old girl, Rena May Sullivan, drowned after stepping into a four to five foot pool in a small creek near Calvertville. Her body was recovered by her father and funeral arrangements are set for Wednesday at the Sullivan residence with burial in Solsberry Cemetery. She is survived by her parents, two half siblings, four half sisters, and grandparents. The body will be taken to Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield then returned home for lying in state.
Funeral services for Edward C White 69 of Hickory community near Dugger were conducted this afternoon at Welch and Cornett Funeral home. Rev Chester Scott and Rev R B Bald ridge officiated. Burial followed at Stafford Chapel Cemetery south of Linton. White moved from Dugger to near Linton 39 years ago and had been ill about a year and a half. He was born March 28 1879 in Sullivan County. Survived by widow Hattie, son Charlton M White of Bloomington, daughter Mrs Herschel Lynn of Linton, two brothers Floyd White of Indianapolis and Hud White of St Cloud Minnesota, and one granddaughter.

Police search for two armed robbers who held up Lewis General Store in Martinsville area near closing time. One man about six feet two inches, the other about five seven, forced Lewis family members to hand over $600 in cash and $700 in checks, using a .32 pistol and a rifle.
Indianapolis reports sixteen deaths over the weekend from traffic accidents fires drownings and other tragedies. Major causes include eight highway fatalities and several gun and fall deaths with victimes from Indianapolis Terre Haute Anderson Bedford Columbus Gary South Bend and nearby areas.

Mrs. Gladys Sims of Elnora was fined 1 dollar and costs in the court of William L. Jackson Lin ton justice of the peace Friday on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license. She was arrested after a minor accident on West Vincennes street.

The Linton Eagles dropped two games, 2-1 to Terre Haute on Friday and 6-2 to Bedford AC on Sunday. Wible pitched a one hit game for the Terre Haute tilt, while Tate allowed four hits and struck out nine in the Bedford defeat amid five Eagle errors. A game is set for Friday with an opponent to be announced.
Mrs Mary Jo Noel of Worthington welcomed a son James Steven born Saturday. Mrs Helen Zimmerly of Bloomington had a son William Edward. Vera Mears of Jasonville Route 2 underwent an appendectomy Saturday. Sally Ann Scott of Lyons gave birth to Judith Ann Saturday. James Edmondson of Jasonville became father to Nikki Lee born Sunday. A boy John Stanley was born yesterday to Mrs Wendall Frater of Crane. Mrs Woodrow Malone of Newberry has a daughter Patricia Ann born yesterday. Miss Marion Henderson of Crane admitted for medical treatment. Mrs Frieda Tincher of Linton underwent major surgery Sunday. Mrs Betty Jane Barr of Bloomington submitted to major surgery yesterday. Miss Margaret Fulk of Worthington underwent a major operation Sunday. Miss Cheerful Weaver, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ivan Weaver, submitted to major surgery Sunday. The blood smeared body of Leonard Giordano, 33, a Chicago gambler, was found near Highway 66 by a Sangamon county nightclub. Police say the manner of death and multiple bullet wounds suggest gangland execution, with two bloodied pistols found nearby possibly used as decoys.
At 11 30 Friday morning two autos collided on State Road 7 near the Lyons edge. Dr James S Simons of Lyons stopped to let others pass, then failed to see Milton Fuller of Toledo colored who struck the Simons car. Fuller's party included his wife and Mrs Johnny Trail and son Mark Twain Trail. Fuller car valued 300 to 400 dollars, Simons 75 dollars. Trails suffered minor injuries. Simons to appear in Linton justice court Tuesday for failure to yield right of way.
Lt. S. F. Turner the U S military governor of Bad Kissingen and Berlin official Rowland M Meyers were ambushed by two armed Russian soldiers just inside the Soviet zone during a routine crop inspection near Bad Kissingen 65 miles east of Frankfurt Their chauffeur escaped to the U S zone and alerted the Bad Kissingen military government authorities The fate of Turner and Meyers remained unreported by American officials as of now

About 10 000 spectators attended the twelfth annual Shakamak swimming and diving championships at Shakamak state park. National junior men's platform diving was the sole national event. Don Shafer of Coca Cola club won it and placed third in springboard.
Indiana case alleges a $17 000 operation to move 8000 sheets and 4000 pillow cases from an unused Camp Atterbury hospital to a Chicago dealer. Abraham Levi, Lt John Ward, and Bernard Ward were detained as receipts indicated illegal sales. Levi posted 5000 bond. Ward in Marion jail. Bernard Ward to be arraigned in Hammond. Linen stored at the deactivated hospital since the war’s end.
The Linton Junior Chamber of Commerce will hold a meeting at 7:30 o clock Tuesday evening at the Teen Canteen. Bill Heitman, president, announced today urging all members to attend.
Richard Dale Sherman 22 formerly of Vicksburg and bride to be Miss Shirley Eshelman 22 of York Pa were injured in a 4 45 am crash on state road 67 three miles south of Worthington. His sister Sharon Sherman 17 of Vicksburg and a four month old baby survived uninjured. The car struck a road barricade at a highway repair site then hit a diesel dipper shovel. All three injured were treated at Freeman Greene county hospital. Sherman, Eshelman and Sherman sustained serious injuries. Sherman is with the U S Navy aboard the carrier Lady.
The Linton-Stockton high school band directed by Bert J. Barnes will travel from the local high school at 2 PM Tuesday to Worthington for a parade at 6 PM. It will join four other bands in a concert and massed band performance, with rehearsals on Wednesday at 7 PM and a Thursday Humphreys park concert to be announced.
Cliff Griffith dominates Jungle Park racing Sunday with wins in the first ten-lap feature in 3:58.73 and the 20-lap feature in 8:20.59. Local riders Bobby Graham Bud Dombrosky Wayne Padgett Glenn Norther and Johnny Hasler also win ten-lap races. Griffith posts the fastest qualifying time 23.32, Graham 23.78, Dombrosky 24.84.
J. F. Abram of Dugger was fined and taxed costs in Linton Police Court on a public intoxication charge. The total amount paid reached 11 dollars and 86 cents.
